At the rate the Earth is dying, should we not be putting 'all' our resources into future evacuation?

Uhh, the Earth isn't 'dying' at a very rapid rate... besides which, we haven't even sent a man to Mars yet, so it'll be a while...

Isn't there water at the poles? Though saying that, we aren't exactly running out of water.

The earth is not dying. IT will either be destroyed completely or it will function just fine.

And mars isnt exactly the best solution to the problems the HUMAN species faces.. the earth is just fine.

Not running out of water? Really? Earth's population is 6.777 Billion, 134 million births a year.180+ gallons consumed a year per person. How much water does the Earth have?

I can't think of any good reason to settle on Mars.

I mean, it's not like there are things on Mars that we can't just aquire here, are there?

There's got to be a better reason than because "it would be cool." Yeah, it would be cool, but that's not a "useful" reason.

Probably not for at least a hundred or so years. Indeed, we've yet to even land humans on Mars.

well if you really want to go to Mars you can go ahead, but i warn you the Martians can be pretty cranky!

The rest of us are gonna stay on earth and try to fix the planet where humanity was first born!!:P

1) Mars is already dead. If the Earth dies, it would be easier to stay here. The logistics of moving everybody to a new planet would be insane. 2) We already have a seceret settlement on Mars.

It's going to bea very long time before we need to evacuate, and by then, we'll probably have found a much nicer planet than Mars.

Right, it makes much more sense to travel hundreds of light years to find a new home. >.> If the Earth dies anytime soon, then I think we all will aswell.

Well we can "reverse" the greenhouse effect on Mars to create a more suitable environment (once our technology advances).

150-200 years. Heck, could be sooner. Science is developing at an exponential rate. Scientists will learn more in the next 15 years than they've learnt in the last 50.

You can't really guess at where science will be by looking at how fast it has developed. It will be scary how much knowledge scientists will have uncovered one hundred years from now.

Yeah, I think it's impossible. The book I'm reading currently pretty much states this. The Earth is perfectly suited to our needs (I mean perfect. Any slight changes to the Earth could have drastic consequences) with all the elements found in it. We need those perfect combination of elements to survive. Even if Mars had oxygen, we could still die on the planet because it's different from the makeup of Earth. Even our location relative to the Sun is extremely important.

At least this is what I think I understood from my reading.

Mars would be a hellish place to live.

The dust on Mars is not only harmful to your body, but it's really fine and can completely ruin electronic equipment even the electronic equipment that's mean to keep you alive. The static charge within the dust shorts out electronics.

Umm... never? it takes a long time to get there. and a lot of cash. and since we can guess that Mars was JUST like earth, but what happened to it would probably happen again if we changed it.
