Do you see things? Do you visualize the sounds? Do you make a scene in your head of what the music sounds like? Am I making any sense at all? I've wanted to try and draw what I see when I listen to music, but I don't think it would ever come out right. I've explained what I see to people, but when I hear myself explaining I just feel like an idiot.

Depends if I'm focusing on the music or not. But I do visualize stuff if I'm not doing other things while listening to music.

I don't see random things. I associate things with music. If I listen to a album and read a book at the same time I will always think of the book when hear songs from that album again.

I have a pretty good ear with music, so I can usually know how to play it just by listening to it, so I usually just imagine the notes and mentally do like a crazy solo to go on to the song, while picturing the notes.

It's wierd I know but it passes time.

That happens to everyone I believe. That can be good and bad at the same time. There are plenty of songs that I can't really listen to anymore because it'll remind me of bad things.

I have exactly the same thing.
For example,whenever I hear Linkin Park's Runaway, I think of the LOTR-Return of the King-book. :o

I feel the emotion, the tone, the expression.

You know a song has got me, when I believe what the singer is singing.

I also try to understand things musically. Why do these melodies work with these harmonies? ect.

It happens with a fair bit of music I listen to.

I understand where you're coming from XD Whenever I try and explain to my friends, they just look at me funny and I end up feeling sheepish.

Happens all the time with music from Eluvium, Explosions in the Sky, Mono, etc.

Godspeed is incredible. They're close behind EitS for my favourite post-rock band :)

Mogwai is a band I've wanted to like for a long time, but I've never really gotten into them.

It's a psychological condition called synesthesia. Basiclly the senses muddle and when you hear something you also see something. It's not that common at all and can take forms in several different ways. For example a case may be where a person suffering from it hears a sound and an overwhelming taste fills their mouth. However if you do have it then the only effect people who have had it said it has on them is possitive creativity.

A good way to deduce weather or not you have it is do you also see colours and associate them with certain letters? And would you find it incredibly hard if not impossible to describe the kind of shade of purple beyond dark or light?

I do it all the time. I'll visualize the sound, I'll imagine scenery that fits the theme of the music I'm listening to, sometimes I get so deep into music that I get disconnected from reality and what is going on around me.

Yeah there are a ton of songs on my iPod that remind me of what I was doing when I listened to a song. It's kind of creepy I find actually.

Depends on which songs I'm listening to, really. If it's easy-listening, for example, I can close my eyes and see landscapes that fit the music's rythm or the likes. If it's rock, it can be anything from a HUGE concert with the band or a chaotic scenery.
