im gonna go with B.i.G. he died in the prime of his career and was bigest rap artist of the time(not a rap fan)

Artists come and go, you can't really put a "loss" on something. Music always evolves, regardless of who dies.

Wait.......your right! If Elvis was on here then I think EVERYONE would choose him though, or the TC could just have left him for reasons unknown, who knows :?

Out of all those I pick John Lennon even though he is very overrated but since I don't care about the rest list I pick him. Going off the poll for a second though I personally think Frank zappa was a huge loss to the industry since there has not been anyone else like him since.

Michael Jackson was borderline irrelevant when he died from a musical standpoint. The only reason he was still in the news was because of his appetite for little boys, his ever-changing appearance, and his otherwise erratic behavior. Tupac and Biggie were never good in the first place. Cobain was a big loss because I think he still had a lot to accomplish as a musician. Lennon was obviously the most accomplished of the group, and I think the biggest loss there is that we never got to see a Beatles reunion tour.

Well, I eliminate rap by default. That leaves 3 choices. I'll try to ignore all of the general weirdness of Jackson and just focus on his music. Well, he had one good album I guess, and even that I don't have any desire to own, because while it might be the best pop album ever put out, it's still a pop album at the end of the day. That leaves Cobain and Lennon, and I would say that Cobain was a greater loss to music*, but Lennon a greater loss just as a person.

*The Beatles put out more signficant work than Nirvana of course, but Lennon's post-Beatles work mostly doesn't do a ton for me.

Indeed. Most of us probably weren't alive when Lennon died either, but Lennon made the cut.

I don't know, it seems you could've just added "other" in the poll and left one artist out, preferably one of the rappers who had less impact. But nevermind me, I'm just nitpicking now.

They took something bad and made it worse. They can have the "credit" if they want it. While I'm not a fan of rap in general, Tupac and Biggie are about the worst examples I can come up with of "good rap", aside from modern fiascoes like 50 Cent or Soulja Boy. I'm sick of people trying to canonize these two men. Neither one had an ounce of depth in their lyrics, and neither could compose to save their lives. They could speak quickly in rhymes; that's the best that can be said about them.

I like rap, and yes Pac was probably the most influential person in rap. But Elvis had a huge impact on both rap and country, and both are huge genres of music.

I'm just saying that Elvis is way more relevant than Biggie or even Pac in the grand scheme of things.

see its your prefrence on music

pac a big were huge for rap ask anyone who likes rap, every year the have a pac, big special on their deaths on tv but never elvis. not to mention elvis oded on drugs does not help. did he i dont recall correct me if im wrong

Elvis is quite possibly the most important and influential man in the history of modern music. His styIe, his flair, his voice, his attitude... they paved the way for all future rock stars. Elvis was the first true music "superstar"; without Elvis there would have never been a Michael Jackson or a John Lennon. Lennon himself said he spent most of his adolescence pretending to be Elvis in front of his mirror.

[QUOTE="savebattery"]Michael Jackson was borderline irrelevant when he died from a musical standpoint. The only reason he was still in the news was because of his appetite for little boys, his ever-changing appearance, and his otherwise erratic behavior. Tupac and Biggie were never good in the first place. Cobain was a big loss because I think he still had a lot to accomplish as a musician. Lennon was obviously the most accomplished of the group, and I think the biggest loss there is that we never got to see a Beatles reunion tour.savebattery

No...just...no. they completely revolutionized hip hop and increased its popularity...

They could speak quickly in rhymes; that's the best that can be said about them.

dissagree with you 110%

your not a rap fan...

2 pac rapped about struggles raped about being broke raped the truth of the everyday life in the ghetto

he may have never been a good guy, lets be honest he dident sell millions of records for sucking.

So think about that: Elvis was so ****ing popular that people knew what kind of sandwich he enjoyed. Just let that settle in your mind for a second. And I dare say you're wrong, because I'd wager almost everyone over the age of 20 can name at least one Elvis song.
