Border Collie. Energetic as hell, also easy to train and will tear a chunk out of your leg if you piss it off, plus they're smaller than a lot of dogs so easy to look after but not so small that they're hopeless at guarding the house or you. People in my area give my dog a wide berth because he's a grumpy old git but not a danger, just doesn't like getting petted if he doesn't know you.
