Do white people need to have pride in the colour of their skin or "culture". Why do they need to celebrate an opportunity to celebrate their race or culture when it is the norm? Maybe if there was an ex-pat community in a foreign country they'd be justified in having an "American day" or whatever but not in America. What is 4th July for?

Do white people need to take pride in their culture or heritage? Most do but it's not white heritage , it's Irish, Scottish, German etc. Most already do take pride in that. Look at what happens in New York on March 17th.

Actually America is 3/4 white not to mention it is still a highly racially segregated nation, geographically.

Here's a question: Who says you can't be proud? Some shmuck on the street? Someone who isn't in your demographic who gets their feathers ruffled? And, even if you try to answer those questions, who cares what they think? Be proud if you want to be proud.

The only thing I see people having a problem with such an idea is the fact that other cultures in America have an underrepresentation in the history books almost to the point of omition. Where is that for white Americans? Where is the lack of representation in a nation where, for years, being white was the norm? Was upper class? Where it was so, to the point, that it created a sort of hatred between lighter skinned blacks and darker skinned blacks. Again, I'm not going to say don't be proud of who you are. It's not my or anyone else's place to say that you shouldn't be. Be proud of being black, white, yellow, red, blue, green. Be proud of being male or female. Be proud of being Christian, Muslim, Atheist. Be proud of being Straight, Gay Bi. But when you ask where the month is for the Straight, Christian, White Male, do one of two things:

1. Read up on history and see why there is even a need for historical and cultural representation for others.

2. Or start up a petition for there to be a month.

But don't come to anyone else about a "Lack of representation in the form of a month of faux celebration."

Depends on the history book you read. The US was settled by Europeans so the early years would be in line with the dominant demographic. Read a European history book and you'd get the same thing.

Now read a world history book...or one dealing in a different country and the demographic shifts. Rather unfair to point at history as being biased to white culture. History is as it is.:roll:

why would italian, irish, or german american people want to celebrate being white, if when they came to this country they were oppressed by other white people? they would be celebrating for different reasons than black people.

also, notice that there are no asian pride celebrations, but there are CHINESE new year celebrations and chinese moon festival celebrations. black history month celebrates african american culture, not race. you can't celebrate european american culture, because there is not one european american culture, there are many. immigrants from europe were free to pass their traditions to their children, while african slaves were homogenized in plantations, and for the most part, have one generalized culture.
