Who actually enjoys these movies other than 12 year old girls? I've never seen a good romantic commedy in my life. They aren't funny, they have poor writing/acting, the plots are awful, etc. I can only see them appealing to prepubescent girls, even adult females who enjoy these would have to be severely unintelligent and immature.

I hate them with a passion and will not watch them even if they are the only thing on tv.

I like them if they're good (ie, Knocked Up).

Yeah, I'm not a fan of them.

I saw a bit of "Double Wedding" on Lifetime and I almost went suicide.

Oh yes, romantic comedies are one of my favourite genres. I watched Devil Wears Prada about 7 times, and it never gets old. Same goes for Love Actually and any of Audrey Hepburn movies, she's the best actress in the history of mankind!

I am offended by your post. I am NOT a prepubescent girl, im not an unintelligent or immature female, Im not even a female. It depends on the movie. Not EVERY SINGLE ONE is terrible.

The only good romantic comedy is High Fidelity. And even then 'romantic comedy' is a bit of a stretch.

Some of them are good. Not stuff like Fool's Gold and When in Rome and that crap, but Garden State was a pretty decent (if completely by the books indie) movie, (500) Days of Summer was good, Whip It had some rom-com elements and I quite liked it. Romancing the Stone (although more of an adventure movie) is a great movie.

And, if bromance counts as romance, then I Love You, Man proves that romantic comedies can be awesome. That movie was a mansterpiece of bromantic comedy.

Watching the genre of romantic comedy is merely a compromise to appease those of the female gender. Essentially, I'd be trading my happiness for the sake of her own happiness.

Aside from Love Actually, I agree entirely with this. Hepburn's movies are wonderful, and The Devil Wears Prada is fantastic.

I like Richard Curtis movies so that's probably why I loved Love Actually

It's not that I don't like it, so much as I haven't really watched it in its entirety. :P

Romantic comedies can be good if done right, unfortunately Hollywood pumps out generic ones every other week because they know that they'll usually draw pretty well at the box office. There are still some pretty decent ones being made though, like the previously mentioned 500 Days of Summer.

I hate romantic comedies. Last month I got forced to watch "Valentine's Day" when I was at my dad's house because everyone else there wanted to watch. I had to restrain myself from going to the kitchen and slitting my throat with a steak knife.

I like romantic movies but I don't generally like romantic comedies, at least not the recent ones. But I disagree, enjoying a certain kind of movie (or music, or anything else for that matter) generally cannot determine the intelligence of a person, and I don't understand where maturity comes into play. I'd think a person who was entertained more by a film that contained nothing but mindless killing would be less intelligent and mature than one who enjoys a movie with a storyline, well developed characters and depth.

The whole nature of the original post sounds about as mature as one of those "Boo hoo I hate Twilight" threads that we get around here. I mean really...

even adult females who enjoy these would have to be severely unintelligent and immature.

chocobo7000

that alone speaks volumes about the maturity of the OP.

My mother switched it over, she does that whenever she is near the TV.

no, but they have more to them (most of the time) than just sitting for 2 hours and watching people die. those kind of movies are below even the crappiest romantic comedies in intelligence and maturity, is what I was implying. and a good number of people who have the "eww romantic comedies" mindset are the people who love those kinds of movies.
