To me it seems to be the most boring "sport" to play, watch, and discuss. How is Tiger Woods famous? I suppose being good at a sport can net you fame, even if it isn't a very interesting sport. I would think "rich white men", the stereotype audience of golf, would actually use their money for more interesting things like yacht cruises or playing video games.

I played every weekend for about 5 years...and hated every minute of it Quit and have not played since. Though I still enjoy riding in that cart and getting wasted while friends play

I think It would take most of the day to play a game without one of those carts, those courses can be huge.
I played in h.s. No pressure? It's a decent time. Playing in competition? Forget it. And I'm not a rich guy. I just played cuz I needed something to do.
There are plenty of unanswered questions in golf. Why is Tiger Woods so famous? Why are golf carts so pathetic in every way? How did newport get the rights to host this year's ryder cup? There's nothing wrong with golf, but I agree that it doesn't particularly come across as exciting. It can be fun sometimes though. Crazy golf, on the other hand, is fantastic and I can see why anybody would enjoy it.
I played in Highschool and was actually decent at it. I found it to be one of the best places to collect my thoughts. Nobody bothers a golfer. Plus, its outside and I don't have to run to play it. (not that I don't love my share of Basketball, Football, Baseball). Golf is just totally relaxing to me.
I had a few trips down to the driving range and golf course with my Dad when I was younger, but I never really got the hang of it. I'll probably buy a decent set of clubs and try and learn to play when I get the time.
It seems like a good sport to play alone and seems pretty peaceful.
Golf is pretty boring. I might be able to get behind wacking one golf ball after another and seeing them soar, but I sure as heck am not going to bother with fetching after them or bothering to put them in a hole.
If only there was some sort of simulation where I could wack away with the balls... hmm...
I love golf. Why bother explaining why though? It's like explaining why you like a certain painting, or a poem, or why certain foods taste good to you. Some people enjoy it, others don't.
Golf is fun to play(but boring to watch usually). You probably just suck. It is way harder than it looks. And Tiger Woods is famous because he was so dominate.
I think golf is a blast to play! When you hit the ball right and it makes that "PIIING" sound the feeling is badass! You don't have to be rich or be an uptight jackass to play, just take some damn beer and make the game your own. It's fun **** and when you have your buddies with you its even better as you can rub it in when you make that sweet shot!
I'm 16 (not an old man) and I really love golf. Now I'll admit that I was convinced to try it by an old man (my dad ;) ) but couldn't thank him more. I'm not sure what's so interesting about it. But it really is fun. Some of my greatest high school memories are me and my friends piling in the golf van and driving some place to go place. Great times.... oh, and I never thought golf was watchable until I started playing it. You start to put yourself in that situation and realize just how good those guys are. And anyone who thinks golf is easy is crazy (even tho it looks easy on tv). It's one of the most difficult sports I've ever played.
