By obscure I of course mean they don't get enough credit by people who do mostly this. I mean those guys who are badass and got really close but in the end still aren't given enough credit by their fans. I have 7:

7. The Black Falcon (Flyboys): In this epic World War I movie, this German is completely ruthless and evil and proves that one can still have an evil villain even in a war movie where you should go for a soldier approach.

6. Saruman the White (Lord of the Rings trilogy): He outbadasses Sauron and truly earns the title of the most powerful wizard in Middle-Earth. He's a suitable villain for the first 2 movies and should've been the one in the third.

5. Captain Frye (The Rock): An evil marine who killed his commanding officer and tried to launch missiles all over the U.S. killing thousands, if not millions. Why? Because he's Captain Frye!

4. Grand Moff Tarkin (Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope): This is the same guy who destroyed Alderaan just because he can and also on one occasion told Vader to do something and Vader actually listened. This is Darth Vader we're talking about here who listens to this guy.

3. Lord Nelson Rathbone (Shanghai Knights): Great villain who beat up the wild card duo of Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. Honestly he's a swordsmaster and tried to order a hit on his aunt. How is that not evil?

2. Judge Claude Frollo (Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame): If you ever thought Disney was for kids think again! Frollo proves that he can be in a Disney movie and do a lot of evil stuff. While deep down he is a good man it's moreover what he does which includes: killing an innocent women on the steps of the eponymous church, attempting to drop baby Quasimodo in a well, psychologically abusing Quasi for the next 25 years, opting not to stop a riot that is about to lynch Quasi, singing a song about how he plans on raping and damning the female lead, attempting to commit genocide against gypsies and throwing the local priest down a stairwell.

1. Alec Trevelyan (Goldeneye): James Bond's ultimate foe if you ask me. Unlike other Bond villains who are supposed to be a good match psychologically Trevelyan is a good match both mentally and physically. I dunno if you saw Casino Royale to realize this but generally getting within 5 feet of Bond with obviously hostile intentions is just wow. Landing a blow on him is a rite of passage. Now actually making him bleed in a mano-e-mano fistfight is straight-up badass. Trevelyan is truly badass as he demonstrats this by beating Bond nearly to death with his bare hands. Granted he's beaten to a pulp himself but still the fact of the matter remains. Trevelyan is one of the few movie villains who should not mess with because if you do he'll end you.

What about you. Maximum listings is ten.

You are not one to outline the rules of how people may respond to your topic. If every topic obeyed only the very limited ideas of its originator, all discussion on this board would be terrible. I think that an overly strict adherence to the OP's ideas in any thread is basically bad. I think that taking threads in new directions is great; it suggests the contours of actual conversation with its wanderings and tangents. Unfortunately, the mods may not necessarily agree, and of course, most OPs on OT must feel as though they are being acknowledged whenever they createa topic, and it deeply frustrates mots OPs if their parameters are violated. Basically, topic creation is too much about the OP exerting control, and this stifles fluent and creative exchange of new ideas not forseen at the time of the original posting. there needs to be an entirely different philosophy, and this 'limit' just underscores that.

I would love to see his other films. I highly doubt they can top his performance in Strangers on a Train, though.
