Am I the only guy who doesn't like DeathMetal? I mean, just about anyone with a mind can play heavy cords and scream into a microphone. When this music plays, I can't help but plug my ears. What do you guys think of metal?

There is a lot more to the guitar work in metal than that dude... and for the record, I don't like metal all that much... just the old classics... Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica. And Pantera too, they're good.
He probably just listened to that death metal crap and not real metal. Yes, I'm just making a statement about those guys that wear all those freaky masks and wierd lookin guitars.[QUOTE="TheZ3nMan"]You're listening to the wrong metal if you think that it's all chords and screaming.Pirate700
not a fan of death metal that is where the growl into the mic the whole time with no solos.
I like metal like war of ages as I lay dying darkest hour b4mv etc. you can actually understand what there saying and theyll switch back and forth and add in singing and screaming
Heavy chords? You need to listen to more death metal. It and it's subgenres have some of the more complex riffing and song structures out there. Dissonant vocals/death growling also takes a lot of ability. Screaming is generally a characteristic of metalcore/deathcore, which actually do just play chords and scream.Am I the only guy who doesn't like DeathMetal? And now for some technical death metal:
Necrophagist
Sounds like nonstop "heavy chords," doesn't it?
However, Metalcore/Deathcore is:
Job for a Cowboy.
I pretty much just like New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and Thrash Bands like Megadeth and Slayer. Also, I have a soft spot for more mainstream metal bands like System of a Down (alternative metal... not really nu metal imo), Tool (debatable but progressive metal) and Nine Inch Nails (industrial metal)
Not a big fan of metalcore, hardcore and all those other "metal" genres.
im listenin to the fall of troy right now theyre pretty sick they have the most technical music ive ever heard, pretty unique, people call them screamo but they definitely arent and plain kick @$$.hughamiThey're metalcore with some other influences thrown in. Try some dissonant prog or some technical death if you're looking for some crazy hard to play stuff.
I'm a big metal guy but even I am a little iffy when it comes to Death Metal. I like prog Death, Doom/Death, and some Melodeath. But when it comes to the more pure Death Metal, Grind, and Tech Death, the majority of the bandsare complete trash. But within that pile of trash you may find something of value.
i kinda liked it in my younger years, but have since then become bored with the genre and moved on to industrial and EBM. i feel that the genre is badly stagnating as a result of too many clone bands. cannible corpse clones, Benediction clones ect. Also becoming too technical with the blast drums. not to mention the rise of metalcore, which i simply do not like.
I love death metal:P You obviously either have no idea what your talking about, or have never actually listened to DM if you think anyone can play it:| Go listen to a Necrophagist song and try to play it.....:|
I like metal, but I do not like death metal such as Immortal. Sounds like he's choking on a Twizzler.
EDIT: I have just learned Immortal is black metal and not death metal. What's the difference? The hell if I know.
cametall
I can't really describe the difference but you can hear it... listen to Immortal and then listen to Cannibal Corpse. That's basically the difference lol

the first song, LOVED it upuntill about 1:52 when the guy started growling...
the second, very good solos, not that much growling
the third song, absolute crap, nothing but growling like a caged animal
i like metal but i just cant stand the growling/screaming/screeching like a dissesed caged animal of death metal
