[QUOTE="hughami"]im listenin to the fall of troy right now theyre pretty sick they have the most technical music ive ever heard, pretty unique, people call them screamo but they definitely arent and plain kick @$$.Saturos3091
They're metalcore with some other influences thrown in. Try some dissonant prog or some technical death if you're looking for some crazy hard to play stuff.

The Fall of Troy is mathcore, i think.

Anyway, for mathcore with some technical stuff:

Between the Buried and Me - Alaska

and even better:

Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession

I like most metal, metal is alot more than screaming and guitar chords. There are hundred of subgenres and each is different in their own way.

I'm not a big metal fan, but I enjoy some of it.

What pisses me off about most metal fans is that they always seem to mistake skill for talent. Yes, death metal may very well be the hardest and most technical genre ever, the musicians are incredibly fast and precise... But musical talent is measured in feeling, not in notes/second...

I like metal in general, but I don't care for metal in which the vocals consist of incoherent gargling.

I hate the screaming and growling in most death metal songs. The lyrics are hit-and-miss.

Some death metal bands (such as Nile) would be awesome if the singer didn't sound like he was puking on the microphone for 5 solid minutes. :?

I don't like much death metal...I like some metal, but I can't stand most cookie monster vocals. I like bands like Opeth and Mastodon, because they don't just growl...they mix it up a little. I can take a couple of death metal songs at a time, but then the vocals just start getting on my nerves.

edit, and before people jump on me...I know that Mastodon and Opeth are not death metal. I only mention them because they do play some metal and do some death metal type vocals sometimes, but not all the time. ;)

the third song, absolute crap, nothing but growling like a caged animal

i like metal but i just cant stand the growling/screaming/screeching like a dissesed caged animal of death metal

legend26

The third song was meant to be complete crap, as most if not all deathcore is.

The vocals are meant to emphasize a dissonant contrast between vocals and instruments, sometimes for the purpose of creating a less accessible sound, and sometimes it's just for the reason of contrast. Earlier death metal bands and some brutal death metal bands do it for the raw harshness. Either way, it takes quite a bit of skill, despite it not being the most approachable vocal form.

Opeth actually is though. :) Progressive Death Metal (although they do have a lot of songs that are just Progressive Metal/Rock on the newer albums).

I can't stand death metal. My first manager at GameStop listened to it ALL the time. lol The last thing that mean guy needed to listen to was death metal, but I digress. It's just not my style of music. So people love it and more power to those people :)

Didn't care for 'em. The vocal changings (as well as all "pig squealing"), simplistic riffs and open chords really bother me, as well as the punk influence in the drumming. :? There are some good deathcore bands out there I'm sure of it, but I have yet to find them.

Dont be so Ignorant, Death Metal isn't just playing the lowest power chord as fast as you possibly can while screaming mindlessly into the mic.

here is a perfect example.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRyl_p1z9Nw

^ amazing song, great solo's good melodic technical stuff.. SPIRIT CRUSHER.

keep listening, the solo's are great, and he uses his voice as an instrument to harmonize with the guitars... dont listen to the voice and try to understand the lyrics.. just listen to the song as a whole.. its not even a true death growl.. its a scream.. ITS CHUCK MOFO'ING SHULDINER .. RUST IN PEACE CHUCK.

I use to listen to it all the time, but now I find most of it pretty boring.
