I'm not sure if this is even debatable... The Beatles have had the biggest legacy and most influence.

Who's actually more talented? Who's the better artist? Now that's debatable. (I still go with the Beatles)

EDIT: Well maybe it is debatable, I shouldn't say that it's not since I could just be under informed. But I still feel really confident that the Beatles technically have the larger legacy and most influence.

That's subjective. I don't think he was worth watching.....

Of course it's subjective. But apparently millions and millions, probably BILLIONS of people thought that he WAS worth watching and listening to. That's why he's so famous. You don't even have to like him to realize that.

This is true, but he lead the show. The Beatles were definitely influential, but so was MJ. I don't have a log book to count how many people MJ and the Beatles each influenced, but I notice a lot more dancing in videos, nowadays.

The Beatles influenced in some part almost every band out there though.....as for dancing....black and white movies had that. It's a natural progression I think.

So did The Beatles. Their songs wouldn't be what they were without George Martin.

That being said, I agree with you that The Beatles were way more influential. They also have a much richer discography and were more creative.

Michael was a phenomenal performer, but I don't think he was all that creative in the studio.

Also, his music went downhill from the first two albums whereas the Beatles evolved from their earlier music.

[QUOTE="spazzx625"]In under 10 years the Beatles wrote/recorded over 300 songsJoshywaa

and imo there is not one single bad song in the Beatles catalogue.

I'd have to disagree with that. The amount of great songs they created is astounding, but I think they have plenty of stinkers.

You think the Beatles are that influential? Well, what about solo artists? And with dancing in videos, while it might have eventually gotten to how it is today, MJ really cemented it into pop culture. Or at the very least, made a lasting impression that dancing can be used to amplify the music. Look at Smooth Criminal.

The Beatles defined pop music.... they influenced pop culture more than Michael Jackson, well in my personal opinion they did.

Michael Jackson is honestly not even my favorite pop artist.

I think Prince is more far talented/creative and I think Madonna is far more creative and experimental in the studio even if she is far less talented in terms of dancing and singing.

Yeah, he's just so much more versitaile, interesting, and can pull off more genres.

And his guitar playing is excellent.

Yes I do. And I'm not a huge Beatles fan so I'm not saying that due to love of the band. As for dancing...can you actually pinpoint that as solely due to MJ? He did dance but in regard to music itself....was he that influential? His career was basically over and he was trying for a comeback. The Beatles have never been over. As for pop culture.....I'd say The Beatles dominated that as well.

Which makes it annoying that the hardcore MJ fanboys pretend that Prince was some kind of second rate Michael.

I mean, they don't even sound the same.

Well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. It isn't just his dancing so much as the music videos and performances he did it in. Yeah, I noticed a big difference in his music after a while...but, that doesn't make his best accomplishments worse or anything. You're probably right about pop influence since MJ had a bad streak through the years with his personal life.

love how you try and talk about legacy and influence and then only talk about your own personal choice.johngebreadman
Well, it wouldn't be fair for me to say anything about The Beatles because I really didn't listen to their music. I hinted at that in the first post.

Beatles of course, every oldies station plays countless Beatles song every hour of the day, Michael Jackson is still pretty popular though, his investment in buying the rights to the Beatles music was probably his smartest move.
