[QUOTE="Vilot_Hero"]What does that prove? Metallica created metal/thrash metal, and Slayer continued on by playing death metal.Epak_

Metallica years active: 1981 - present.

Slayer years active: 1981 - present.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to raise an eyebrow at the assertion that Slayer "continued on" with regards to Metallica.

That is sorta questionable, but Slayer is death metal, while Metallica is metal/thrash metal.

Thisis death metal and Slayer is quite far from it. They're thrash like everyone here tries to tell you.

Raining Blood isn't thrash dude:| Master Of Puppets is, and that's alot different from Slayers music.

Raining Blood is speed/thrash, which is what almost all Slayer songs fall under.

It's death metal. Quite a few people will agree that it is. Some of their songs seem thrash like, but not all of them.

It's not death metal. The fact that you continue to say that it is, along with some other things you've said in this thread, proves that you don't know anything about metal. I'm sure there are other people who think that Slayer is death metal, but those people most likely haven't heard too many different kinds of metal. The media sometimes refers to Metallica as hard rock but that's because they don't know much about genres either.

Oh Christ, why would you call them death metal when they don't even sound like it? Why make them something they are not? They may have influenced it, but they certainly aren't dm. I start to sound like a music snob/elitist here, I'm so ashamed!

And with that you lost any and all possible respect from me and also credibility. Both are Thrash Metal bands and are part of the Big 4 along with Megadeth and Anthrax. It can be said that Slayer did have an influence on the Death Metal scene, but if you want early pioneers of Death Metal, look to bands like Obituary, Autopsy and Death.

Also, that poll is a joke. You dont mention Dave Lombardo or Hellhammer, two of the most well known and influential metal drummers. I vote Neil.

You sir, I believe, are musically handicapped. I mean, I can understand non metal listeners saying Slayer is Death Metal, but a person who listens to metal saying that they arent Thrash but Death, just, its beyond words.

As for Metallica creating Thrash Metal, you are wrong. No one can really say who started it because all the bands came around at the same time, except for Megadeth seeing as that was after Metallica. Before Metallica there was Leather Charm, so we could go as far as to say that they created Thrash (although they might've been Glam, but its unlikely). Metallica did bring Thrash to the forefront of the metal scene, but soon changed their sound to just regular heavy metal/hard rock. Slayer continued on but soon changed as well, as did Anthrax and Megadeth.

Like GabuEx said, you might just be trying to get a reaction and you have succeeded. I dont think I need to continue any longer.

Definitely a joke thread.Slayer is my favorite band and I can tell you that they are not death metal. You said you have listened to other death metal bands.Care to name them?Another question.Do you think that Load and Reload are thrash metal? As for the topic, don't know about the best but my favorite are Dave Lombardo and Iggor Cavalera.

there's not really any 'best' at anything probably, but I think that Buddy Rich is pretty good with a kit.

aside from Neil Peart, that list is HORRIBLE. Are you serious? Good God!

Anyway, as far as drummers still active in music today, Gene Hoglan, George Kollias, Derek Roddy, Inferno, Hellhammer, Mike Portnoy, Nick Barker, and Danny Carey are all fantastic drummers as far as technique goes. Oh, and Tim Yeung deserves a mention, I suppose, for pure raw speed although Kollias gives him a run for his money. Honestly, i'm not even too sure about listing Barker; I just have a soft spot for him.

I'm going to say Josh Freese. He isn't the fastest, or the hardest hitter, but his timing and sense of rhythm are immaculate, furthermore he can play pretty much any style of drums.

Example.

Phil Rudd (AC/DC drummer) is the best.

I'd say Dave Lombardo, Flo Mounier, Steve Asheim, Gene Hoglan, Trey Azagthoth and Dave Suzuki.

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]Lars Ulrich is a joke. I really find it funny how people can claim he is "the best drummer in the world." He just beats on the drums with no musical talent. He is just fast and loud... he doesn't actually make a foundation for the rest of the band to build upon.Vilot_Hero
He is the best drummer out there:| I'm pretty sure that you only listened to one of Metallica's songs, and never bothered to watch the solo. His rifts flow together flawlessly, and has variety while maintaining good sounding beats.

Lars urich is a good drummer, but he is not the best, there are plently of drummers better them him.

I don't listen to those bands so I'll do a write-in vote for John Dolmayan, the guy on the far left in my sig. His drumming is influencial, I don't know how much though, compared to those in the poll choices.

there's not really any 'best' at anything probably, but I think that Buddy Rich is pretty good with a kit.quiglythegreat
This. Buddy Rich pretty much makes every other suggestion in this list a joke.

As far as "rock" goes, John Wright from Nomeansno. He's also one of the most influential drummers from the past twenty years, whether or not you know it.

The fact that you mention Lars in the same sentence as Peart, and then claim that he's better makes me fairly sure this is a joke topic. Lars is Metallicas weakest musician.

and since when did Black Sabbath invent rock? WTF?

Best drummr is Flo Mournier from Cryptopsy. Infinatly faster than Lars, much more technical and able, plays with more flare and isn't nearly as annoying a person

Lars is a god when playing drums, and Kirk is one of the best guitarist out there.
