George - the only one who had instrument skills that exceeded those of a high school garage band.

Oleg_Huzwog

Paul was good on piano and guitar and so was John...and Ringo was decent on the drums...but I do think George was a better guitar player than Paul and John..

[QUOTE="iowastate"] but as a musician I realize they were not exceptionally talented in comparison to other musicians which is not out of the ordinary for rock groups.Radiatedrich91

Just because they didn't play 10 minute speed metal solos and roar like lions doesn't mean they weren't good musicians. Of course they weren't virtuoso players, but they were amazing songwriters, and that matters much more than technical ability in a band.

what makes you think I believe it takes exceptional talent to play metal or yell? it is virtuoso musicians who struggle to make a living who I respect more than slightly above average musicians who are recognized as "geniuses" for writing and playing simple songs. Listen in to a music course in almost any university when it is composition time and you will hear plenty of good music, some very good music and on occasion some great music. The difference is it will not be heard by very many people and if it is recorded it will be on a camcorder and not preserved for posterity.

John was a jerk, I've always heard, same thing as Roger Waters with Pink Floyd, Waters was extremely talented but he is a jerk, Gilmour is my favorite from Pink Floyd, and McCartney is my favorite Beatle.

Yeah seriously? I'm assuming because it's "favorite" Beatle not most talented or best.

Still all these Ringo votes are surprising. I would've bet everyone voting for John.

George is just my favorite all around though, he was such a good person and stayed out of all the drama.

The first person to ever throw a concert for charity...

He was amazing. LOL @ guy love - I'm gonna have to agree, he was a very handsome kid.

Great respect for John Lennon as a musician but as a person he always seemed like an arrogant punk.

Look at this interview of Julian Lennon talking about his dad (John):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6eV7ZsghCs

CHOASXIII

That's pretty sad...

Right? This really depressed me. I felt so sorry for him.

John Lennon seemed like a cool guy, but the more I REALLY stop and think about it he was always a sarcastic & arrogant ****.

Then I see things like this interview... I mean how can you treat your SON like that???

Well, the question asks who your FAVORITE Beatle is, and Ringo has always been pretty likable with his good sense of humor and laidback demeanor.

George, for sure. It seems like he was the only one who's ego could fit through the door, and I also think he was by far the best musician out of the group.

I love this interview. I've think I've seen it atleast 50 times over the years. The part where he gets up when Cavett says "Yoko sat there before" is awesome. He generally seemed like such a peaceful human being.

I couldn't agree more. He's so funny and genuine. He seemed like such a mellow, honest, caring person. Didn't let all the fame get to his head. Extremely humble for his position.

MissLibrarian

I was thinking the other day "Why didn't they make a bigger deal about George's death" (like in the media).

I realized it happened right after September 11th and that has to be why it wasn't a bigger deal.

I mean all the stuff they said for Michael (the child molester) Jackson. Yet nothing for George Harrison?

Had to have been because of the 9/11 media frenzy.

I know...Ringo was the only Beatle who did not have any real talent as a musician. don't get me wrong...he was an adequate drummer and could keep rhythm but he was not the same quality as the others and his ability was way less than that of Pete Best the man he replaced.....if you have had the pleasure of listening to the first album with Best on the drums you can appreciate that. I have the album and best may not be great but he is darn good. and there is a quote from Lennon when he was asked if Ringo was a great drummer he said "Great? hes not even the best drummer in the band!"

This. Not only was he an amazing producer, but he played instruments on quite a few of their songs as well. The piano solo on "Lovely Rita" comes to mind.

I've always liked McCartney the most. Just because he's... well Paul McCartney.
