You can find out any mod's level by checking the profile. You've got the Moderator emblem, then next to that is the emblem that tells what level the mod is. Hopefully with the forum revamp they'll do something to make it more apparent on the boards themselves.
I have moderated a mod before... took a week and a half, but they were moderated for their offense. Take the proper channels though, and NEVER reveal who or why.

The two mod badges are redundant. Red means that the user is an official GameSpot moderator, and the purple tag means that the user has mod powers on that board. It's a bug from the last forum revision that basically became a "feature," and I really, really, really, REALLY hope they finally get rid of it next month. There's no reason for two mod badges at all. >_>
What people don't realize is that there are mighty E-mods that mod us if we ever stray from the herd. It's a little known fact, but it's true! I've seen them with me own eyes! They be huge and wield the modbanhammer! It's frightening! :shock:
We all come to the realization that we don't talk about E-mods. They come out when mentioned >.>.
