That failed horribly on 9/11... Anyway, I'm all for turrets on the buildings. Let's just spray innocent people on the streets with molten steel instead of having innocent people die in a building. We have airport security so we don't have to shoot planes full of innocents out of the sky.

We weren't expecting it (or if you're a conspiracy theorist then we let it happen.) Airport security is completely different now than compared to back then. Not to mention planes didn't have flight marshalls at the time and pilots weren't allowed pistols. The odds of a second terrorist attempt when it comes to crashing planes into building is extremely unlikely.
Solution: Laser turrets capable of vaporizing an entire plane. If it shot an incoming plane down, then it would just crash into another building...

And to ensure the turrets have the power to do that, the whole tower will be a battery, with the workers inside constantly running on wheels to charge it.
Or if we would just cover the tower in turrets, they could obliterate an oncoming plane, turning it into confetti. *Throws confetti into the air*

Until the likelihood becomes impossible, airport security will never be good enough. We weren't expecting it (or if you're a conspiracy theorist then we let it happen.) Please, let's be realistic here. What about gravity rays that will bring it gently to the ground?
InEMplease
I'm glad you understand.Right, plane vaporizing laser turrets attatched to this building is being realistic. Silly me.

but the passengers will be good enough to stop anyone from hijacking. a wannabe hijacker would know this and that's why they focus on bombs and blowing up the plane right away.

If I wanted to hi-jack a plane, I'd become a pilot and fly the plane into the building myself. That work around will take years upon years of planning, but I would do this as a dedicated member of my terrorist organization. I'm sure that no matter the security employs or the will of samaritans, the dedicated will find a way to strike at us again. It only matters to them that we think we're safe again. After all, that's how the succeeded back on 9/11.but the passengers will be good enough to stop anyone from hijacking. a wannabe hijacker would know this and that's why they focus on bombs and blowing up the plane right away.

It's still rather ineffective. The only advantage is now planes are almost impossible to hijack, but bombs are even more of a threat than they used to be. I just had to write a paper on this ;)[QUOTE="Mordred19"]If I wanted to hi-jack a plane, I'd become a pilot and fly the plane into the building myself. As long as it aint Trade Center man! lol j/k.If it shot an incoming plane down, then it would just crash into another building...

It's more of a candid and lighthearted topic than a debate again about 9/11, who to blame, blah blah...Well, the US had the tenacity to reconstruct the World Trade Center(Honestly, its design reminds me of the Gentek building in Prototype) which would be higher than the Empire State Building. One thing I'm apprehensive about is its structural integrity and its means of defense against a possible(God forbid) attack. What are your ideas? Should it have turrets/radars,etc?angry_roman1011
Then the terrorists will just attack a different building.
So the only solution is to put anti-aircraft guns in ALL buildings.
AA guns... on buildings... in peacetime?!
I'm not clear if that's stupid, ignorant, insane or some gumbo of the three. AA guns firing at the aricraft headng toward the old north and south towers wouldn't have stopped the damned things you know. You'd actually need a RADAR installation and SAM's to be effective, and then you'd... ooops... be downing a plane over some random OTHER part of Manhatten.
This has the same logic as giving everyone a shotgun upon entering an airplane. Besides, who the hell is going to trust an automated threat detection system in the middle of a major metropolis? Better systems have led to blue on blue incidents in the past, even with the Aegis system! You'd need perfect, and that doesn't happen... so no.
Wait... why am I even responding to this madness?
Maybe they should just turn the surrounding area into a sprawling AA defence grid like the Death Star
I was thinking this but then again it wouldn't be of much use if there are plains flying by constantly.
Is it even plausible? Is it something like a force field or something?Instead of thinking offense, how about coming up with a defensive technology, say enegy shielding?
stevoqwerty
Lol... I was thinking those same words. @Lief_Ericson: Heh, and see how well that worked... twice! :PExcellent idea! Why didn't they think of this before...
