But if someone has a gun, I would say "Dude gotta gun", or if someone is doing really good at something I'd say ""Damn, dude is serious!". 

Usually it's used to refer to someone not in your presence that you have already established as the person you are talking about.  That's how we use it generally in my neighborhood, or at least the people I talk to.

I'm in Maryland, so the dialect probably doesn't differ too much from our locations.  Especially if you live in the inner city.  MD is funny though, because some parts are SO country and people sound southern, and other places, like Baltimore, Frederick and parts of Hagerstown, people act Northern to the bone.  Probably why we couldn't make up our minds on the civil war on who to fight for, lol.

I'm just glad I wasn't brought up in a southern-like part.

Dude is how everyone knows me. Because I say it the RIGHT unlike most wannabes that says, "Dude" at the wrong time.
