Don't you find profanity and society's outlook on it to be kind of a silly thing? I mean, who honestly was the one that wrote the rule saying certain words couldn't be said? Where they just saying certain words until a combination of syllables and sounds evoked a knee-jerk reaction? "****. Ooooh, I don't like the sound of that! No way! It's profane, and shall not be uttered!" *writes down more stupid words that before contained no such offensive meaning* And using silly euphamisms and substitutes like "Poppycock!" and "Holy crap!" isn't that much better. You're still swearing, because you are exclaiming in a vocal matter about something that has surprised or frustrated you. You're just using a different set of syllables. We still know what you're trying to say, but you're just saying it in a more socially accepted way.
Also, certain swears have been more commonly accepted into today's speech. The word "damn" used to be a pretty powerful swear, but now it's one of the most commonly uttered "minor" swear words. 50 years ago, you would have never heard the word "ass" recited on TV or radio. The B word is even used constantly on some prime time television shows. 10 years down the line, will the FCC even care anymore about the S word? Will leniency finally be given to using the F word? Will we ever see existing words given profane properties, or see newly invented words as cusses to replace the ones we use currently?
I think it's ****ing stupid that every **** has to get all ****ed off whenever some **** says a few ****ing swear words. I mean... ****! So, what are your thoughts on profanity?
