Stalin actually modernized Russia on a massive scale. It was much more backwards when he assumed power. Russia was still under a midieval feudal system with serfs well into the 20th century.

Hitler was a mad and thick, he did not have the brains to be as evil as Stalin, and atleast he treated germans fairly Stalin just didnt care who he killed.

I wouldn't say they're inherently evil. Both tried to empower their respective nations, at whatever the cost. And the cost, at a humane point of view, was too expensive, so we deemed them evil.
