So who's going to go see the new Star Trek film? The pre-screening reviews that are out right now are EXTREMELY positive. It's getting a ton of 10 out of 10 reviews.

It looks really good, I can't wait to see it. (Sylar from Heroes plays Spock.. i'm still physched about that:P)
If it gets above a 90% on RT and people call it one of the greatest science-fiction movies of all time, then I will consider spending my ten dollars.
Going to a screening since we have 3 actors in it. So whether I wanted to see it or not... I will have to. The early ratings are due to Abrams' marketing genius. He surprises people with the screening so they get all pumped up. Going into it all excited... it's hard to give a negative review. (IE the wrath of Khan Surprise)SajedeneI wished I could've been there for that. I wonder how many were really pissed that they didn't get to see Wrath of Khan?
As a Star Trek fan, I think this film looks absolutely horrible. It looks like they're trying to appeal to the angsty teens with this rendition. I'm still going to see it, but I definitely have reservations about it.
From what I've read from individuals that either saw the movie in Austin at the surprise screening or the premiere at the Sydney Opera House, the movie is incredibly well done at least from both a technical (CGI and audio) and story standpoint with the Countdown comics being just revealing enough.
Pretty much every person that I've come across says it rivals Wrath of Khan. Not in terms of the quality of the villain, but in terms of drawing you in and story. From what I've seenin the trailers and the brief snippets released by the studio, the acting is very good all around with the exception of the individual playing Chekov. In fact, Karl Urban apparently does McCoya considerable actingservice.
I will definitely be seeing this movie opening weekend.
I'd really like to see something *new* happen to the franchise. I'm tired of remakes, and I've already seen Kirk. I'd like to see something new with a new crew, new show, new captain, the whole thing. I don't want them to take out the guts of the franchise, they should do something new.
no way dude that is awesome sylar is the coolest guy on heroes besides peter of course :PIt looks really good, I can't wait to see it. (Sylar from Heroes plays Spock.. i'm still physched about that:P)
The_Sand_Man

I know that people weren't expecting much out of that movie after The Motion Picture... but is there something I'm missing?
@Dutch_Mix: Rick Berman and Brannon Braga have nothing to do with this movie. Star Trek has had 3 major producers though the years: Gene Roddenbery (original series, animated series, The Motion Picture), Harve Bennett (Movies 2-5), and Rick Berman (Next Generation, Deep Space Nine [though he didn't have much to do with this after 2 years], Voyager, Enterprise, and movies 7-10). The last time they changed leadership and made only a movie, we got The Wrath of Khan, and JJ Abrams looks like he's made a great film here.
Heres the troof.
Skyler = Spock
Movie = Fail.
I just could never look a star trek the same again if I saw a bunch of teenage versions of the characters.:roll:

When I first saw the trailer, I was wondering why the cast were all so young. But after researching, almost every actor is 29 or older.

Orly.
It's part of the summer blockbuster group so I will see it. I usually watch most of the tentpole titles coming out between May and August.

JJ Abrams surprised a bunch of people thinking they were going to see Wrath of Khan and showed them Star Trek (the whole thing) instead. If you were there, you'd be so hyped up and happy that you're getting to see the whole movie... you're going in with a tainted positive expectation. So majority (if not all) of who left that screening gave it a positive review.

One has to hand it to Abrams. He knows how to hype up his own projects but not too the point of saturation that people get sick of the film before it even comes out. He does the same for Lost and did a good job of it on Cloverfield.

I just wonder if this whole
alternate universe
idea is gonna feel contrived, or like it has a place in the overall span of the Star Trek universe.
At first I didnt care about this movie, but after I saw the trailer I thought "wow, that looked pretty awesome", then I found out the director was J.J. Abrams, producer of my favorite show Lost. Then I looked up the movie and I found out it is a series reboot. I never cared or even found Star Trek interesting, but this new intro to the series just might. Im looking forward to it.

If there was ever a sci-fi franchise who was very good in using that particular plot mechanic it is Star Trek.

The last time they tried to bring "new blood" into it they ended up with Nemesis (why they got Stuart Baird of all people to direct is is beyond me, especially since he had no respect for the franchise), but when they brought in new blood with Star Trek II, they fashioned a gem (though Harve Bennett actually went back and watched every single episode of Star Trek before he got started... that's where he got the idea to bring back Khan from the 1st season episode Space Seed). Nicholas Meyer came in with the idea of "Horatio Hornblower in space" and modernized Star Trek for its time. I think JJ Abrams will be able to do the same.

Well, to be fair, JJ Abrams hasn't made a good movie or television show... ever. So, I'm more than a little skeptical about Star Trek.

Then as someone who liked Alias and Mission Impossible III, I guess we'll just have to part on opinions here.Please Log In to post.
