I originally was going to join the army, to keep it up as a 'family tradition', but decided against it.
Joining the military is definetly high on my list of options. My grandfather was a marine in WWII and my father was in the Navy. I have been thinking about joining the Navy so I can see the world or possibly become a merchant marines, you get to see the world (maybe) but your not in the military.
Air Force for me.
Not only is it a righteous decision in the first place, its also a secure job. When the economy tanks and corporations go under and people start losing jobs, military personel are safe. They still have theyre jobs, benefits, etc.
I just know I will never join the army. My father trained with the army for 9 months and said it was just awful. Instead of going to Italy and France like he did when he was in the navy he got to go train in the forests of Canada for nine months sleeping on the dirt. He always says at least in the Navy you get a bed and 3 hot meals a day.

Depends what rank you are. If you do ROTC you'll be getting paid $40,000 + benefits right out of college as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Youre right about the pay, but the benefits seem pretty good to me. Theyre subsidized by the government. As of now I pay for my benefits out of my paycheck.

Duxup just runs around with the knife, that way he's too fast to get hit.

Right now I believe the Air Force is offering up to 13 grand for signing up.

true, but like for example, ateast for the Navy/Marines, our hospitals blow, they r always under staffed, the buildings are ancient because the Marine Corps says "they are historical landmarks." Like my hangar where i work was built in 1946, 1946! that place is a dump. and the GI Bill? sure u get alot of money but u can only go to certain schools
I would consider it, if we were defending against a hostile country.
But now, to go in and risk being sent to fight on Iraq? Not a chance.

Depends on what branch and what your job is.
People have this illusion that everyone in the military is strapped up on the front lines.

I still wouldn't place it high up on my ideal jobs list. It'd be near the bottom.[QUOTE="T_P_O"]

This is true. Their are so many options in the military that you might not ever have to leave the country. They have so many tech jobs now.[QUOTE="trix5817"]

Yeah I hear ya. But I hear that, in the Chair Force, as long as you are on base and not deployed to Iraq, your life is pretty cozy.
i am going to be a marine. I am pumped even though i am not quite old enough. i want to be a para-trooper and jump out of air planes like my father and grandfather. who else is going to be a marine?assassinlord22
Uhhhh marine paratroopers haven't existed since WWII..... the only airborne units left are Rangers and Green Barrets if I remember correctly.

o no doubt about it man, the USAF has got it good, their buildings and all their equipment is supper nice then again they are a young military branch while the other branches have been around for ages so the USAF came in at a good time and got all new crap
I had a great time in the USAF in the middle 80's doing what I did, but I wouldn't be so anxious to do what you want to do when you want to do it...but hey, we all have our place and time. I hope it is everything you expect and a rewarding experience.

Yeah I'm not sure if Marines have paratroopers. In the Army you can get your wings if you go to Airborne School in the summer for a couple months. You don't have to be a Ranger to be qualified.

You're right. Don't you have to have your wings before you qualify for special forces though?
