The mets collapse was horrific to be true. But you had a depleted bullpen (upgraded) a patched up starting rotation (upgraded) and a solid hitting line-up that had slump after slump. And yet the phillies still needed a miraccle season by hamals to win on the last day. You have to be almost delusional to think the mets won;t make the playoffs.

[QUOTE="B05T0N"]hahahahahahahahahah the Mets? No.... I'll take San Diego, LA Dodgers and Arizona. Maybe more teams, depending on who shows up. One pitcher doesnt give them close to the best pitching staff...CIoud_S
that's why I said 5, not suprised a boston fan can't read.

Actually, I can read. You said there's not a 'starting 5' in the NL that's better. I have no idea what a 'starting 5' is, but we call it a rotation. You're severely mistaken if you think the Mets have the best rotation in the NL...

Line up the rotations and get back to me. ANd you'd think a baseball fan would know what a starting five is. Alas must be a boston thing again.

We call it 'rotation' here on the West Coast. I've never heard of a 'starting 5'.

Oh definitely, I mean Peter Gammons doesn;t know much about baseball, I'm sure he just pulled something out of his arse. Internets how I love thee. Btw Luke you're right SD has a great starting rotation, only one that really matches up well. The Dodgers and Arizona have a great Ace but drop off significanty afterwords. Mind you this is a ll a moot point if the MEts bats decide to take sporadic vacations throughout the year.

[QUOTE="B05T0N"][QUOTE="web966"]Johan Santana will surely bring my Mets to the world series this year.B05T0N

One pitcher?

Pedro will also be healthy. Granted, no one is ever guaranteed a WS spot, but they are the team to beat in the East.

Last time I checked, they had a huge collapse last year and didn't win the division. The team to beat is the team that won last year.

True, the Phillies made an amazing comeback combined with a collosal collapse by the Mets. With the addition of Santana, the Mets may be a better team than the Phillies, but they will have to prove it before they become the team to beat in National League.

My predictions

  • AL playoff teams - Angels, Tigers, Red Sox, Yankees (Wild Card) (Yes, I'm leaving the Indians out)
  • NL playoff teams - D'Backs, Mets, Cubs, Phillies (Wild Card)

I think the Yanks will lack the quality of veteran pitching necessary to go deep into the playoffs. It's a tough choice between the reamining 3 AL teams, but I'll go with the Red Sox to repeat a WS appearance. In the NL, I think the 1-2 combo of Webb and Haren will lead the emerging young team to a WS berth. In the end, the D'Backs young and inexperienced team will be beaten by the experienced and veteran filled team of the BoSox.

Boy your first response set the tone didn't it? That's why I hate the Red Sox. 4 years ago they were too embarressed to say boo, now everyone is a Boston fan. I may hate the Yankees, but at least they are legit fans.

Uh... that's a little like saying a team has a Gold Glover at firstbase. Neither is something really worth boasting about.

Considering he hit .333 with a triple, four homeruns and 15 RBI in 34 games, all in his rookie season, I'd say it's something worth noting.

No, he says it all the time. Analysts on TV and sportswriters say/write it all the time. It's commonly called both a "rotation" and a "starting 5.
