[QUOTE="fidosim"] Rush has the biggest audience of anyone on the radio. Beck is on Fox and has a radio show and he doesn't approach Rush. Rush is king. 8)Pirate700
Perhaps so, but Beck just seems to be in the spotlight more lately. Maybe it's because where Limbaugh is just polarizing Beck sometimes appears to approach lunacy, maybe it's because Beck is further right, or maybe it's because these tea party people have used him as a rallying point, but Beck just seems to be more influential right now than Limbaugh. Remember, too, there was a poll released not so long ago of Limbaugh listeners that asked why they listen and a large group said because they find him humorous. Personally, I know some people like this and I think they use that line as an excuse to escape ostricization, but either way straight numbers don't necessarily equate to influence. Maybe they do, but based on my observations Beck holds a lot more sway right now.
A lot of people here just seem to take him too seriously. He makes a lot of jokes, funny or otherwise, that people take as him being serious. Is he kind of crazy? Yeah, but that's his persona. The guy's not a stiff shirt. And if people stopped taking him seriously he'd be out on his show every day of the week complaining about that. Sorry, but I just don't buy this argument. If the guy were a comedian he'd be in a comedy club wearing drummers out like there's no tomorrow. Frankly, I've never heard anything come out of his mouth that seemed like it was intended to be comedic. "Oh, the President's a racist, you're splitting my sides!" Not to mention, though, that a lot of people turn to him for opinions. You don't see people rallying at tea parties because of something Jerry Seinfeld said during an act. If he's a comedian, fine, then let's stop calling his show a news show, let's start calling it a comedy hour, and let's all laugh at everything he says. Like I said, though, I'm pretty sure he DOESN'T want that to happen and he DOES want people to take him seriously, so unless that changes I'm not going to look at him as a comedian.
