They bring it on themselves. It's kind of grunge minus the angst. Even the band's name's an in joke - your "nickel back" is what you're supposed to demand if you accidentally select them on a jukebox.jimmyjammer69that was incredibly lame yet awesome
[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="Symphonycometh"] Hey man. I'mma let you finish, but I'm crazy enough to believe that mediocre music is far more preferable than you listening to my pieces or anyone else that is...well...not good.SymphonycomethWhy should I listen to any music I consider inferior? Including bands such as Nickelback. You shouldn't. I know I don't. Not trying to be mean, but why the question? Because of your implication that being a music lover means you love ALL music. In reality...it means you appreciate ALL well performed/composed music. Just not like the music for the sake of being a "music lover".
I don't like them. All their songs sound the same. Whenever they're on the radio i'll change the station.
I like music that moves me, their music makes me stand still. I don't rate it.
Sigh_han
Exactly this. Songs are boring and sound almost the same...
Thats the thing i dont get though, other crap bands like Linkin Park or Creed got average reviews, but the critics seem to absolutely trash these guys.Read their interview from playboy a few years back. They make an excellent point when they say the critics analyze their music more than they do. Radio friendly "catchy" tune music is their thing.

The only opinion that matters is your own. If a band can make a living playing their music, then they're "good" enough. I'll make my own decision on whether I like what they produce though.
I don't understand why people hate them as much as they do, even though I don't like 'em at all. A lot of people act like Nickelback is the worst band ever, but they're clearly not. They're just insanely average.
They're Canadian rock band (I use 'rock' very liberally) and they're not Rush. Therefore, they suck.
I wouldn't throw rocks at them. However, as a life-long musician, I strongly dislike and disrespect bands that refuse to challenge themselves musically, and who refuse to challenge their listeners with any sort of variety or sophisticated composition. In these cases, the music is no longer art. It's a convenient consumer commodity, and from my artistic point of view, that's completely wrong.
Well said, they should call it some other thing but music. Don't insult real musicians by mixing them with this crap.I wouldn't throw rocks at them. Very well said, and probably the best statement of this thread. However, I would throw rocks at them. And bricks.
yep pretty much this. And make no mistake Nickelback is one of the biggest bands today.people hate anything that's popular cause it's cool to.

I dislike them, because musically, there isn't much going on. It's hard to decipher one song from the next, because it's all generic rock. Nothing exciting.metallica_fan42
As somebody that apparently likes Metallica, you don't have a lot of room to talk. That's all I'm going to say.

How so, do you know much about guitar? James Hetfield is widely regarded as an awesome rhythm guitarist. Explain to me how that's bad? I admit they haven't made the best career choices, but musically, no matter what some say, they are a pretty tight band. They play it so safe that you couldn't get any safer. Very run of the mill boring stuff.Nifty_Sharkand here's your answer.

That album alone makes Nickleback look like the Jonas Brothers. They cant make something that complex.[QUOTE="Elephant_Couple"][QUOTE="metallica_fan42"]I dislike them, because musically, there isn't much going on. Bands aren't about individual musicians.
There was one song of theirs I was listening to on the radio, think it was how you remind me, but it went: Power chord, different power chord, different power chord, first power chord, and the rythm wasn't all that great it either. It was like: strum, one two, strum, one two, strum, one two, strum, repeat. I thought to myself, "How the hell do you play that live and make it look like you're really into the song? A beginner could keep up with that song." I just envision the guitarist up on stage basically falling asleep while playing the song.
[QUOTE="Deano"]No, no. People hate them because of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qs4tNeGyTyI And they suckpeople hate anything that's popular cause it's cool to.

That's hilarious, but they really don't have any idea of how to write a song. Every single one of theirs is the same damn chords over and over again, they don't even graduate beyond simple strumming. What's worse is 90% of the time they play power chords, which is basically like saying, "I admit I don't know how to play guitar." But I think what really gets people is that they get platinum status on some of these albums by playing songs that could have just as easily been written by a teenager fooling around with his guitar in his room. If they didn't sell as much I think people would just disregard them, but the fact that they're such a hit in terms of the number of albums they sell pisses a lot of people off.

Because they suck. I don't know what else to say. Not to mention 99% of their fans are complete idiots.
I didn't really know Nickelback had fans; I thought they just had people who bought what was popular - which just happened to be them.Because they suck. I don't know what else to say. Not to mention 99% of their fans are complete idiots.

I'm kind of ashamed of Alberta to give birth to that band. :( It's like the only popular band to ever come from here.
they may not make music that really pushes the limits instead they focus on making music that is relatable to people. People like to chill out to stuff that they can personally relate to in some way. Hence the reason they are popular.I wouldn't throw rocks at them. I don't hate them, I just hate their banal music. It's devoid of any creativity, soulless, and predictable. I don't know how anyone can find them even slightly enjoyable...
