His music is unintelligent and horrible along with most R&B and rap, and if you disagree with me you are probably under 13.WozmcfcIf we're going to knock music for being unintelligent, we should pretty much disregard the last 50 years of mainstream music as a whole.

What is with the shots at R&B and rap? There is still alot of good R&B and rap out there. Yeah the mainstream rap has taken a hit because of stupid people, but there is still alot of good rap, and R&B is still good, not like the 90s, but its still good.
People dislike him because he epitomizes what they dislike about music. They see the music as simplistic trash, and they see it becoming enormously popular while the music they hold dear remains in the shadow. Personally, I could care less about Soulja Boy and what other people choose to listen to. But I will certainly agree with those who hate his music that it is incredibly simplistic and unsophisticated music. That, though, is probably why it's so popular. Simplistic, unsophisticated music is FAR easier for a layman to appreciate. Put a catchy beat with a catchy, memorable tune, and it doesn't matter if there's anything else to the music. Lots of people will probably like it.pianist
Do you listen to any hip-hop?
Crank Dat is literally the worst song I have ever heard in my life. I think the fact that it's considered music is insulting.Englando_IV
i dont consider it music....he doesnt play any kind of instrument and he speaks..that does not =music...although now that this topic has been brought up i have this in my head hahaha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEP2vmtq1Fo
Do you listen to any hip-hop?

For entertainment? No, I don't seek it out on my own. But when people post links here, I will listen out of curiosity. Though I wouldn't remember specific names or titles, I have heard a wide variety of hip-hop, since there are quite a few avid fans of the genre here who are more than willing to post links. And I have in the past defended the genre against those who say it 'isn't music,' or that hip-hop 'takes no talent.'
But I will not defend it for what it is not. I have never heard a piece of hip-hop music which is not simplistic from a musical point of view. Formally, contrapuntally, harmonically, you name it... there's just no meat in them when they're compared to more complex forms of music. The genre is steeped in repetition, and frankly, without the incessant repetition, it would no longer sound like hip-hop music! That doesn't appeal to me in any genre, and I can assure you that hip-hop is NOT the only genre that utilizes extensive repetition of short motives in lieu of development. It's just the most prominent one.
It is sort of funny when you see fans of other Western popular music genres rabidly claiming that hip-hop music isn't music because of the repetition. I wonder if they notice how much THEIR favourite styles of music depend on motivic repetition. :P

So true, so damn true.
Fighting over music is a crime in itself. Can't you fight over something that actually matters? Like religion or politics or terrorism or something that might effect your life?
Music is only patterns of vibrations in air... Its not exactly groundbreaking stuff, hate to say it.

Them's fightin' words, dude.
Music is easily one of the most important things in my life. It has brought me so much emotional satisfaction over the years; I really can't imagine living without it. On a purely technical basis, music is indeed just patterned vibrations, but like so many things, the human brain can make so much more of it than what that cold description would indicate.
Because him and his "music" annoy me.Squire_Ramza
More the reason to ignore him. Dwelling about it on a thread won't make him go away. You're just thinking bout him more :-P

Lawlz at the uninformed post.
It's his opinion. Tough to be uninformed about your own musical taste... you either like something or you don't.
An entire genre can't be bad...

[QUOTE="Retro_Active"][QUOTE="joshrocks2245"]I don't get why he is so hated. I think crank dat, is a pretty good song.
Of course it's not like hardcore rap or something, but it's still a good song.
So why all the hate on him??
He never killed hip hop by the way, no one can kill a whole music genre.

Trollin'.
Wow, so now people even think someone is a troll if they state their opinion?
