Well? from what I understand they are good computers, I'm even consindering a 15 inch MacBook Pro to write my stories on and start a website for Autism and Autism spectrum purposes, I may even use it for Logic Express because I can carry a tune. But it seems here that most of the people here have a hate for Macs and Apple products in genreal, I think it's sad really. Honestley, has anyone here that uses mainly PC's even used a Mac? really? and why do you hate it so much? I've used my sister in laws Mac and was amazied how good the interface was and all of the cool programs that were on it such as garage band. Anyway, I really don't see why Microsoft had to put out attack ad's and those god awful laptop hunter ad's if they didn't feel threatend.

Because this is a gaming website and Macs aren't so good at that. Other reason for Apple product s hate is "alright" products that are over priced eg. You can get a Creative MP3 player for less than the iPod price, and it sounds better.

I don't hate Macs. They are overpriced with lesser functionality than what you can get with a standard PC, but they're decent enough machines. Excellent for people who are no so great with computers. I'd just never consider buying one..especially not a Mac desktop or workstation (Air aside, the Macbooks seem like decent investments.)

I do find many in the Mac fanbase annoying, however (the ones in the business of propagating misinformation and half-truths. These people often have no idea they're even doing such, simply because they themselves are misinformed and generally have no idea of what the hell they're even talking about.)

This is true. The mac os is really great though. I'm a PC gamer and I still loved everyday I spent with my macbook (before selling it). It's so refined and polished.

I don't hate them, but I would never get one because they are so expensive. It just makes no sense to get one when you can get another laptop/pc for way less and with better specs on some occasions. I'm not a computer expert, so I really don't know what Macs are capable of, but it just doesn't seem like a wise investment to me. If they were priced like a normal computer though I'd totally get one :P

I love the over-priced cliché argument. Knowing where to look can get you a very good deal. My Mac Mini with a respectable spec for running the OS and programs was £200, and my friend recently got a G5 iMac for £280. The over-priced argument only applies to those who attempt to buy directly from Apple, which is not such a good idea.

Well, it's pretty much a fact that Macs beat the hell out of PC's when it comes to professional creative work, Macs are pretty much the norm in Hollywood when it comes to video editing on final cut pro, and the fact that most graphics design agencys use macs and not PC's is something to. I really don't see gaming that big of an issue anyway, and the fact that that the new macs have a mid range nvidia chipset in them now pretty much makes the argument that macs are not good at gaming is moot, I've read the reviews for allot of the mac games that were mainly PC ports and most if not all people had no problem playing them, again making the macs can't game argument moot.

lol, Hollywood doesn't use final cut pro. They may use Mac OS, but not final cut pro, your more likely to see something like Adobe Premiere Pro, and After effects, and then other custom software.

Well to me, the appeal that macs have with a lot of people is the reason they are stylish, and people are suckers for style. You look at pc's and see how they are just big black blocks. Get it?

Yeah, people that hate macs with a passion will beat the macs are more expensive that PC's like a dead horse, the fact of the matter is that one will spend an even amount if not more on a PC over the years in virus protection and software and hardware upgrades makes the argument invalid. And if anyone has ever seen the price ofa vigor or a falcon northewest PC, that renders the argument useless also.

Virus Protection - $40/year. Big whoop. And even can be free if you use AVG. Also Spybot is free.

Hardware Upgrades - Hey, we can upgrade our PCs instead of buying a new one! Try that with your mac!

Vigor or Falcon NW - Not many people I know buy those. And they're also overpriced (just like macs).

That was in reference to the comment about how upgrades in a PC cost. The point is that instead of buying a whole new computer, you can just upgrade the motherboard, processor, hard drive, and ram, among other things. Upgrading the ram and hard drive in a mac will only do so much. You can do a complete PC overhaul for less than $500 and it will be as good as a new, state-of-the art computer. You can't do that with a mac.

This would mostly be for the lack of a need to do so to such an extent. Macs are used for media editing and such. The OS is incredibly light-weight, and is not at all demanding on the specs of the system.

How is there the lack of a need to do so? Macs become obsolete at the same rate that PCs do. The TCs point was that upgrades make PCs more expensive. I am saying that it actually makes PCs cheaper, because you have many more options when the need for a faster system arises.

I do not hate the Mac... I just think they are overpriced, and most software in the world is made for the pc, and runs pretty bad on a Mac (which is changing)

irony has it that Macs are becomming more and more like a standard PC, just looks better, nothing else to seperate the two, except price...

Some Mac owners I do have problems with however (most are nice people) but the elitist group of snobish people that claim thier mac is just about as close to god as you can come, annoy me, its usually the same people who pays far too much for thier HD TV, and claiming it is the best screen in the world, altho the innards are mediocre at best, it just "looks" expensive.

The Mac itself? I kinda like ^^

dont believe the nonsense that is the Mac Apple commercials. You can survive Windows without having virus protection. Software and hardware upgrades is a huge step up and well, isnt expensive if you plan to upgrade every 2 years. At least PC/Windows are easy and cheap to upgrade...

I don't hate Macs, I really quite like them. I do a lot of music recording and production on my PC, and Macs are really superb for that kind of thing. But they're not suitable for gaming at all and indeed, they're horrendously overpriced... although I'd happily buy a MacBook Pro just for music if I could afford it.

If I had to choose one or the other for an all-purpose machine... I'd still choose a PC every time.

I had a Macbook once. It crashed. You know why? 'Cause I accidently hit the open disk tray button during a burn. The computer froze. Eventually I got it to turn off, and it took me back to the initial registration screen and wouldn't let me go past it. I took it to 4 different computer repair stores and all the prices I was quoted nearly equaled the amount I payed for it.

I spent $1400 on that junk, with a small hard drive, cruddy gpu, and lousy speakers (even for it being a laptop they were absolute crap). OH and a itty bitty 15 inch screen. Not to mention I couldn't use regular Office on it.

I took that sumbish back to Best Buy, and got myself a Toshiba laptop for about $300 less. 4 Harmon/Kardon speakers, 2 huge hard drives, a sweet gpu, better processor and a gigantic 17 inch screen. Better feeling keyboard to boot.

Then I thought, lets try the same thing that happened right before the Mac crashed. Did it, and all that happened was it stopped the burn.

Mac's OS is not that interesting, and actually NOT that user friendly. For an average user and occassional gamer, Macs serve no purpose and meet none of the basic requirements I really asked of it.

I use free antivirus and it's much better than any Norton of Macafee you have to pay for. IPCop is also free and can protect a whole network of computers.

Maybe that's because there is load s compatible software to buy for a PC ;)
Also you've always got things like Foobar, VLC, firefox, thunderbird, windows live tools, GIMP, paint.net and audactity which are all completely free.

Mac hardware goes out of date just as quick, or quicker as from what i've seen the top macs arn't actually at the peak of computer technology, the top Mac Pro comes with a mid range graphics card for instance.

Falcon Northwest are pretty overpriced but then you get extreme quality from them, alot more than you'd get from Apple, custom wiring, top overclocking. Take a look at this for instance.

And if anyone has ever seen the price ofa vigor or a falcon northewest PC, that renders the argument useless also.

I don't see FNW as being overpriced. No different than buying a Mercedes. Having them set up water cooling for you for less than $200 extra? The peace of mind is more than worth it.

No offense, but people dont discuss these things in terms of buying one used, or getting one off a friend, or snagging a bargain on ebay. We discuss them in terms of what the asking price is, and the standard asking price of a Mac compared to a PC is a rip-off.

If I could play all of my games on a Mac, I would. That's all I'll say.

Macs are overpriced if you don't understand the concept of false economy.

Gamers tend to be anti-mac due to the rediculously low levels of support developers give to the platform.

Me? I was raised on windows and I feel more comfortable with it.
