Why is there a glut of low level users with few posts making either race-related or religious related threads? Thats the far more interesting question.

Hello :D lol, But i still dont get the stereotype. Is it because purple drank is the poor mans way of getting high or something? (not trying to be racist here, sorry)[QUOTE="spacedog1973"]

I think it's the ignorant stereotype people seem to have that "African-Americans love grape soda" or something like that. I remember that movie too well; the bald agent was taunting the African-American man by assuming he would cave by spilling what he believed was his "favorite drink" right in front of his face. The character was racist, after all.
Man I really hope I'm not taken out of context and reported for being accused of racism...

There is nothing to understand other than it's offensive.
But why?[QUOTE="FearCrow"][QUOTE="nelson415"]
Maybe because it's a stereotype.
bloodling
Because a lot of poor black people apparently drink grape juice. Why do you care so much, just don't say offensive stuff, especially not to whoever is supposed to be offended by it...
Because i asked my friend wat it meant now he is pissed at me :P Thats why i want to know.[QUOTE="bloodling"][QUOTE="FearCrow"]But why? FearCrow

It shouldn't even BE offensive. Why should anyone give a rats if you like chicken or a certain flavored soda? It's stupid, it's just making fun of preference. It's not offensive at all, people just make it so by thinking everyone wants to insult them.lol, But i still dont get the stereotype. And why it is offensive. But merley asking your friend about why its offensive shouldnt be offensive. I think he was messing with you.I dont think he should care, it's very stupid to get so offended. Especially since he asked an honest question and didn't mean anything by it. Some people are WAY too easily offended and need to get over it.JudgementEden
When something is generally considered offensive, it's best not to play with fire. Otherwise it's just asking him to get offended by poking him and saying "are you offended now?"

It's not offensive at all, people just make it so by thinking everyone wants to insult them. And what if they do want to insult them? There is no clear line and bottom line stereotypes are annoying. If it was a great joke or something, that would be completely different.

Well, if a person truly wants to insult another with a lame stereotype, they are probably dumb. My argument is just towards people who get easily angered. If someone insults another with a stereotype, the person being insulted should just go along with it. Trust me, that will do a lot more to the insultee's supposed "ego" than getting mad.[QUOTE="JudgementEden"]I dont think he should care, it's very stupid to get so offended. Thats true. If you dont wanna smoke, dont put a ciggerete and a lighter together. But some people are still sensetive. Im mexican, and i get these stereotypes all the time, some are true. I do eat tacos basically everyday, and i am short. But some things, like people asking if im illegal or something like that, can really piss me off. Because thats pretty offensive. Like calling a black person the n word. But purple drink shouldnt be offensive. Theres no history on it at all, so in my book, it holds no weight. Its just better to be on the safe side. It's like an American going to France and ask them why do they think that the fact that Americans think the most important words for them is "I surrender". The stereotype is just as dumb and meaningless, but just asking it will make French people mad since they will think you're making fun of them, even if you're not. Bottom line, it doesn't matter how stupid the stereotype is, sometimes it's touchy so it's best to avoid it.
Hello :D Ok fair enough.. Well the answer is.. Black grape drink is seen as a favored drink for a lot of black people, sort of like sarsaparilla - but is an in-joke for black people who know this... sort of like Irish drinking Whiskey, or Americans drinking root beer - a sort of catchall stereotype for a group of people.. The part in the movie where he tips it on the floor is to indicate that he follows that stereotype, is an underlying racist for doing so by thinking that black people are so desperate as to snitch to save the black grape. I would say its a clever joke and I found it funny when I watched it as usually the obvious one is chicken.[QUOTE="spacedog1973"]

i'm black and i'm not a fan of grape juice and its a dumb and redundant stereotype and people who ask why something is a stereotype is only asking for trouble and usually does it to invoke a response from people.
But why?[QUOTE="FearCrow"][QUOTE="nelson415"]
Maybe because it's a stereotype.

Firstly, Grape juice isn't cheap(as far as juices go) so I doubt its was the choice of the poorer black folk. Secondly, the only instance I can even think of with this being talked about is Dave Chappelle stand up. Lastly, anyone seriously getting angry/offended by such a thing is just plain silly.I dont think he should care, it's very stupid to get so offended. Especially since he asked an honest question and didn't mean anything by it. Some people are WAY too easily offended and need to get over it.JudgementEden
Its not stupid to ben offended. if you are offended you are offended. Its not as if you can do anything about it. Saying to get over being offended is like so insensitive - have you never been offended before? Maybe you should get over it.

Well, how did you expect him to react if you throw a racist stereotype at him?

Just because it's a stereotype doesn't make it racist...it's RACIAL...B I G difference...

Yeah, i've been offended before. I get over it. You can help it, it's that a lot of people dont want to. Something isn't offensive to everybody. Some black people would get offended, some wont. The ones that do, should get over it.Thinking this way doesn't make one insensitive.

How are you to know the answer to something if you are barred from inquiring about it? I see it as a valid question. Being black myself, I never witnessed many other black people clamoring for the grape drink/juice/soda.Please Log In to post.
