Why are most people afraid of spiders?

The other day I caught this huge orb weaver and started poking it on its back for fun.Then set it free.

We are usually afraid of spiders because of our perception of reality. Every species has a different one. This is why its hard to tell different dogs from eachother but for dogs they can easily notice the difference of different dogs in the same species. To our perception, we can 'notice' other humans.

Humans are slightly different because we have a wider range of emotions and feelings towards anything and everything. Some music sounds scary and some cheerful, there are positives and negatives of every scent. Spiders to us look creppy because of there relevance to humans. Well that's my theory anyways. And yeah maybe it's possible we developed a fear from spiders but that's kind of unlikely.

Like all fears and phobias, fear of spiders is created by the unconscious mind as a protective mechanism. At some point in your past, there was likely an event linking spiders and emotional trauma. I don't mind spiders that much. Although, I live in Scotland where spiders are not big, at all. Looking at some of those pictures are different though, I wouldn't want them in my house!

For just normal spiders though, I let them do their thing. I won't kill them or anything, they keep flies away so they aren't even useless.
