I notice it more and more these days. Heck some guys I know only date Asian women, and watch nothing but Anime. I am not trying to critisize them, I am just curious as to why Japan is so fascinating for some people.

Mainly because strange and weird things are mainstream there, as opposed to the US where liking such things will cause you to be ostracized from society.

I don't know, I don't really see that a lot though, I see a lot of girls at my school that are obsessed with Insane Clown Posse though so I guess that has equal strangeness.

One of the main reasons I believe is because we are so exposed to their culture compared to most. Secondly some people are strange and obsessive, I myself am very interested in japan and I am going there next year for a couple months to see what life is like, however I won't consider myself to be one of those wee a boos or whatever they are called.

Japan is my favorite country. I want to visit there and not just because of anime. I like the culture and history of it. I think its a beautiful place, I love the architecture. Its my preference and honestly I explained why in 1-2 threads yesterday. Not sure why people are so uppity about it though as people also are obsessed with other countries but don't get nearly as much questioning over it. Always been a dream of mine to at least visit the country before I die.

I have no idea. A friend of my friends' only watches anime and looks down on anything not from Japan (movies, shows, cartoons, girls, food, games, etc), and he's white. Its really annoying.:?

I don't know. Possibly because it's quite different from the US culturally, but in a way that people can accept.

I'm not obsessed with Japan, per say, but I do appreciate it's culture and find it more interesting then the US'.

Some people are obsessed with Japan and it's culture. Is it all that different from someone obsessed with Star Trek?

They have very inovative ideas and technology. They have a rich and deep culture. Some of their entertainment is very interesting. Also, their women can be some real freaks in the bed. I think most people question why others like the Japanese culture when they are not Asian.

Hmm...seems a generalization. One would have had to have done extensive research in and out of Japan to form said conclusion. I'd be surprised if any such person existed.....

I was going to ask the TC why did he like films so much, but I thought I would get modded, but yea TC it's the same reason you guys like film so much, whatever reason that is. I forgot to add that japan is also extremely ahead of the curve when it comes to consumer technology, buying drinks by scanning your cellphone = win, some people like that.

I think Japan is fascinating because its so goddamn strange. Sega, Nintendo, Sony, Capcom, Konami, Namco, and Tecmo are pretty much my only experience with Japanese culture and they come up with some pretty crazy **** story/character wise. They also like to get really drunk. My boss took me on a dinner/meeting with some Japanese company and we got absolutely obliterated. They literally were trying to drink me under the table with bottle after bottle of whiskey. I was very impressed.

I'm guessing it is because of the culture and the other things that people hear about the country itself. Now, I won't say that I am not interested in Japan, because I am... I guess not as much as others. I couldn't really tell you that much about Japan... cause well the only close to a Japanophile thing that I have going for me is my user name on here. (which I have explained the reason of my user name many times) I haven't watched that much anime... and I don't really talk about it in real life unless someone brings it up.

i like it because of their anime, games, music, the tech and I guess their women. however I am not that obess with country or their women. there good looking women from all the asian countries, not just japan itself. not a big fan of some of their movies though. kinda cheesy(excluding godzilla) imo.

I'll add that I visited Japan in 2001 or 2002, thereabouts, and did enjoy it quite a bit, but mainly because it was such an alien environment. When I first traveled abroad, I made a couple of trips to Europe and had this vague since of disappointment because I had some crazy expectation that it would be "different" somehow. When I was in Japan, it was all pretty damn different.

I don't know, but my friends love anime (not obsessed with it though) and absolutely love Japanese cuisine. I don't watch anime, but I have to say, their food is sweet. But then, I guess it's because North America has absolutely no culture to them

Not to mention they're miles ahead of most other countries with technology. I mean, I think a vending machine over here in NA would seem primitive over there.

I've always wanted to ask about that but I figured I'd get modded. What is US and Canadian culture exactly? When I was watching Mrs Universe I saw everyone come out with a traditional dress but then I saw miss America come out with a racing suit... I was like O_O , then I was wondering what else could she have used... but I couldn't think of anything.

I don't know either, but my view of American culture is talentless hollywood stars and those accursed teen singers. Don't ask me, this is just my opinion because I don't even know what our culture is. :P

I'm obsessed with their food/diet. They eat a wide assortment of foods and old people are living longer over there. Not many people I know eat enough fish and veggies.

VEGETABLES!
