Same here, but there are brief parts in their history that I'm interested in, and I would definitely like to visit there (but there are many countries I want to visit).
I was in Akihabara for about 3 months several years ago and would have loved to stay longer. It might just be because i was tired of what i was use to, but i found the culture, the people and the scenery to be fascinating.
I am not obsessed but i can see why it would be so easy for others to be.

People are obsessed with all kinds of weird things. Japan is a pretty interesting place with lots of weird **** coming out of it, so I'm not surprised people are obsessed over it as well. I'm pretty curious about what it's like, thinking of traveling there one day.
The only thing that fascinated about japan is their video games. everything else meh. There are some hot Asian women, just like there are hot women in every race. Japan is a place I wouldn't mind vacationing to, but I certainly wouldn't want to live there.
I like video games and the quirky ness of their culture but that's about it. I didn't realize how crazy people were about Japan til I took Japanese in college. The people in my class are definitely "otaku." They're all into that cosplay and now a ton of anime and I have no idea wtf they're talking about. I guess it's something to be passionate about and that's cool; however, I think theJapanese come up with some weird stuff (porn) that I personally think shouldn't be allowed to exist, it really grosses me out.
I've heard from people that have gone over there to teach English and stuff say that the Japanese really don't welcome outsiders so I always wonder what happens when these Japanese obsessed people actually go over there and find out people are giving them the cold shoulder. To me Japan is just another country and I need to visit to put another notch in my passport.
To bad is hella expensive and I don't have much cash anyways so I guess my passport will still feel lonely.
I don't know why, I guess because I don't find interesting the US shows (only watch Big Ban Theory and 2 1/2 man) nor I am interested in the shows of the other American countries so I prefer the japanese animes. Also I like their language, it seems quite interesting.

I'm not obsessed with Japan. But, I like Japanese cuisine. I also like the countryside. Japan has some beautiful sights of its own. It has four seasons like North America and Europe. It's also one of the few countries where I felt relatively safe.
I'm sorry, but Japanese women are nothing special. Take the hottest Asian girl you can find and she wont even compare to the hottest Caucasian girl you can find IMO. Oh, and Japanese girls have the most annoying voices on the planet. They're so obnoxious. Why do they always seem to sound like they're 8 years old when they're like 24? Disgusting. Tokyo is cool though, I'd love to go there because I love big cities, parties, and venues/bars.
