[QUOTE="doubutsuteki"]But no real change is going to happen as the result of the actions of just one person.luke1889
And that's where you're wrong.
Example: Martin Luther King.
EDIT: more examples:
- Florence Nightingale
- Mother Teresa
- Mahatma Gandhi
- The Buddah
You might want to elaborate a bit if you want to explain your examples. I know that there are certain individuals who lead and inspire people, but in the end only the actions of the many can have a profound impact on society. That's not to say I think it's hopeless for just one person to make a change, but he or she has to organize him- or herself. I'm not organized currently but I sympathize with Worker's Power, which is an international socialist league. I'm not going to be the activist because someone tells me to - I fight for my own interests. I've been one before, today I lay low. The struggle is hard as it is sometimes, and we're people, not machines. One shouldn't give up though.
Activism is a whole lot about talking to people, writing, going to demos and so on - generally airing views, trying to recruit people to an organization and to showcase the strength of one's organization, both during times that we can and can't use direct action. Well, I am writing now, at this very moment. ;)
