Why can't we stop the Westboro Baptist Church?

The First amendment isn't there to protect polite speech, or speech everyone is fine with, why would that need protecting?

Because God is protecting his chosen followers with Freedom of Speech, obviously.

I think a better question is "why shouldnt we stop them?"

As much as I disagree with their agenda and/or message, I cannot think of one objective reason why we should prevent them from assembling and speaking freely.

I read an article and saw a video where they were going to protest a soldiers funeral. The whole town sabotoged thier act and chased them off.

They are displaying their own views on what they believe religion is. These views are quite different from my own and many others who are also religious.
