Why do Americans have to import Coca Cola from Mexico?

If they want a decent tasting one, that is. Mexican Coke is made from cane sugar, instead of corn syrup, and tastes a bajillion times better than the American crap. Why is this delicious concoction not made in the U.S.? Why do we settle for an inferior version?

I can still remember when Coke was, in fact, made with real sugar. There was a time in the States when corn syrup was not the primary sweetener used for sugared drinks and food. I am not sure when things really started tochange, but for Coke, it was when "New Coke" was introduced. I am convinced at this point that the primary reason for a new formula was to make a Coke product that was able to mask the change in taste that took place with the addition of corn syrup. When the public had a backlash against New Coke, the company reverted to the old formula in almsot every way SANS the reintroduction of real sugar. Coke Classic has never tasted like the pre-catastrophe drink, IMO, and unless tariff law changes, it likely never will again outside of imported varieties.

If you got a coke from Mexico, check the expiration date I'm just saying.

pepsi brands are swithing back to non corn based sugars and if you go to texas near the Dr. pepper bottling plant you can buy Dr. Pepper in stores there that is made from non corn sugars. my local "grocery store brand" of bottled pop is made from non corn sugars.

it may be over due and slow in the making but they are starting to give americans the choice of corn syrup or non corn syrup sweetened drinks.

I just read a small article on how it is pretty much the same coke but because the Mexican version is still in the bottle and it doesn't contain the compound you find in cane sugar which is sucrose but instead it has glucose and fructose which is basically high fructose corn syrup. They have a theory it is because since they use old bottles it still has the sucrose compound and it might have split into the other compounds.

Whether this is true or not I'm not sure but it does tend to taste a little different and even when they release the throwback soda its totally different with cane sugar.

I suspect that sweetening sodas with corn syrup is far cheaper than sweetening them with sugar. That, in turn, may be due to heavy subsidization of corn production in the U.S.

Because there are large lobbies for it.

Also, Sam's Club sells Hecho En Mexico Coke. It costs more than the cans do though, I think because it comes in glass bottles.

Bingo! It's strictly a cost issue with the massive corn product we producer it's much cheaper for them to use corn syrup in Coke. The folks at Coke don't like the import Coke becoming more popular and discourage retailers from stocking it as they fear that eventually consumers will demand the USA manufacturers provide their own at no additional cost which will of course lose them a chunk of profit. Dr. Pepper already takes the loss in profit as they feel it strengthens their consumer loyalty.

Indeed you can but it might not be national and just the Southwestern stores that are carrying it. In Texas, Arizona and Southern California a lot of Target and Costco stores carry the Mexican Coke as well.

I bought american coke here in sweden at a fair the deal was **** great. But the cola taste dull and almost taste like sand.
