I am not trying to make fun of you or discredit your music taste, but I have listened to some country music and found it to be pretty awful.

But I heard that it is very big in America and I was wondering what people like about it or their favourite songs.

I hate country music and I live in Florida. . . .but unlike certain other genres, there are a few decent country songs here and there. I used to love country music.

Irritating when people down a whole genre.

I hate country music and I'm an American. I know alot of Americans that do like it though. I heard it was pretty popular in Germany, atleast that is what the exchange student from there said. There is such a funny song about Country musicians, if you want to know it PM me, it's hilarious(can't post the name here for fear of suspension or banning).

You are generalising. I'm from the UK and I quite like country, and plenty of people in america don't like country. Also, I'd suggest that anyone who likes either rock or country music checks out "Hayseed Dixie". They are an AC/DC tribute band that do a ton of rock songs in country style. Its realy good.

I know a lot of British people who enjoy country music much and I heard Japanese idolize country music and the American cowboy. Yes, country music has been butchered very badly by some contemporary artists, but there are many glorious times in country music's past. Listen to Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Roy Acuff for proof.

I live in Charlotte and there's only like two country stations, and that's smack dab in the middle of North Carolina.

Three quotes in a row! Neat!

Anyway, what I meant was local stations in my area...it's either country or hip-hop. Irritates me.

Sorry for generalising, I have never really heard or seen anyone in the UK who enjoys country, and I have always b told that it is big in America.

It usually gets no.1 in the charts doesnt it?

I have never ever seen a no.1 country song on the pop charts before. Maybe the Dixies Chicks were the last to do it, but I think it's very rare. Usually it's rap, rock, or R&B.

Other countries generalize the hell out of America. Like we're all deep south hillbillys.

Not like we don't generalize. British teeth.

Americans are lazy. The French have odor problems. Germans have anger problems. Russians are backwards. English police chase their criminals miles across town waving a night stick.

There's something deeper than taste, because onions have the worst taste and have no business being in any food.

I am hijacking this thread!

This is one of those things that I cannot defend my fellow American for enjoying.

Though I have to admit, I do enjoy that Soggy Bottom Boys song from "O Brother Where 'art Thou?"

Onions taste exactly the same as apples and potatoes. Its the smell that is diferent. Hold your nose, and take a bite out of an apple, then hold your nose and take a bite out of an onion. They will taste the same.

country music is actually one of the most popular genres of music in North America. It routinely has one of the highest and most devoted audiences of any genre and country radio draws about 77 million listeners every single week in the US alone.

now, there is plenty of bad country out there... but for some reason, most people only think of bad country songs when they think of the genre. Yeah, we've got to put up with Shania Twain, Taylor Swift and Jack Ingram... but Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr. and Johnny Cash are pretty outstanding. Toby Keith writes some pretty fun songs, and who doesn't like Charlie Daniels? Name any genre, and I'll name you plenty of bad bands who make a living at it.

It's not my favourite genre, not by a long shot, but it definitely has a place in our culture.

The only country music I've heard that I like is Johnny Cash. Most people here say they flat out HATE all country music, which I think is a little extreme since there probably is some good country somewhere out there.
