People are selfish, and think they're always in the right, no matter what, and anyone that doesn't agree with them is an idiot. Its not just Atheists, Religious people do it to. Probably more so.
Imo, No one can control what you believe, or dont believe. So dont change for anyone, or try to change anyone. Plain and simple.
because people want everyone to beleieve what they believe. there have been many wars over thisfreshgman
I'm talking more why debate all the time. I see it in a lot of places and don't understand why people care that much. Like Im not christain and hardly ever even worry about them.
Atheists talk so much trash against Christians because they can't understand how a fellow human being can be so ignorant and deluded.
"Hate" does not usually play a factor, but a natural love for humanity does.

I guess that's the point of a message board is to debate.
I know this is likely to start all out war but whatever. I'm not trying to start a faith debate on which is right or wrong I'm just trying to understand the mind set.
Q: Why do Atheist talk so much trash towards Christains. Why do you care?nirvana563
I wouldn't put ALL Atheists under that category of talking trash... I would just call them "jerks" =]
I mean, in an argument I might get a little heated up and defensive, but it's not like I go around talking crap all the time just for the hell of it.
Even though I don't believe in God, I still believe that a person should have respect and morals for other people and their beliefs.
Why do Christians talk trash about us Athiests?
Seriously though, I have several friends who are christian and 1 who is muslim and theyre awesome but then sometimes I run into the HxC christians that shove it down my throat that Im going to Hell. That makes me wanna kill them and talk trash.

Well non-theists feel like Christians beliefs were formed by conformity, I guess.

No self-respecting human being likes to see their fellow brethren going down a path that is frivolous or counter-productive to the human race, and that is why Atheists often feel so strongly about such matters.

I see you get attacked the most. That might be because you post in a lot of religion threads though. I get sick of them and only post in a few of them every once in awhile. I don't see how you do it. :P

I'm not an atheist but that question goes both ways. The reason why some people on either side talk trash about the other is because they are just incapable of tolerating a set of beliefs and a point-of-view that goes against what they believe. elblanquito_81
I fully understand that but I see a lot more Atheist with "tolerance problems" then I do with religious people. I'm not saying one is right.
I suspose Atheist do it for the same reason religious people do it.
Truth is all that matters, not tolerance. Respect is a whole other kettle of fish.
It truly disturbs me how how flawed logic can be in such debates, and I personally am only interested in disseminating the truth.
In the history of Philosophy, only one Philosophical model has stood the test of time, and that is the Scientific Methodology.
If you wish to adopt your grand pappy's version of reality, that is your right, but you are doing all of humanity a disservice.
I don't mind Christians who say "I believe in God because of faith. No other reason."
OK Fine. I can live with that I guess.
But what I can't stand is Creationists. These people who make a mockery of science and pull so much **** out their ***. It's so frustrating to see so much ignorance and lies.

See, you have the exact same mentality as a hardcore christian does. And Religion has done a lot of good for this world. It also has caused a lot of destruction, but so has atheism.

Nonsense. Voluntary decision can work both ways. Where do you get your logic from?!
well, if christians didn't keep trying to convert us, maybe we wouldn't keep trying to do the same to theists.
personally i don't spread or preach my beliefs but if someone says something i will talk back to them
Because religion is both dangerous and irrational, and the world would be considerably better were it consigned to the infancy of our species.Funky_Llama
This is what disturbs me most about atheists. They think religion is "dangerous". It never has been dangerous and never will be dangerous. People sometimes use religion as a scapegoat to commit horrible atrocities, but if it is not religion, then people will find another scape-goat to blame their evils on.
Also religion at the very least instills good morals into our children. What keeps an atheist from killing somebody they hate? Not much which is why there are thousands of murders a day (most of which who murder are atheists, but I am not scouring the internet , so if you want more proof, you can search the WWW for yourself).
Ten Commandments of God, listed in order
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honour thy father and thy mother.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
10. Thou shalt not covet.
These commandments are what Christians live by. Do they look dangerous? Do they look like they can spread hate? No they can't. They are a great set of rules to live by which needs to be taught to our children and grandchildren.
Now I do not care if you do not believe in God, but please do not make the assumption that religion is "dangerous". And certainly do not say that it is "irrational"

the difference is that athiests use LOGIC. christians choose to believe that there is a man in the sky who made us out of mud and made the entire universe out of nothing..
i mean think of it, when the whole world was pagan, they used gods to explain things they didn't know about. such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc. religion was a way for people to create explanations for things they couldn't. even now today many people believe that a man in the sky created the universe in 7 days because we have no scientific proof as to how the universe was created. discover that, and most religions will fall.

Congratulations. You've taken the 10 commandments and acted like they alone are what Christians live by. By the way, 2, 3 and 4 are stupid and outdated.
It is certainly illogical. I have never seen a logical justification for belief in God that made sense.
Nothing keeps an atheist from killing someone they hate, apart from morality.
Have you considered, say terrorism? Have you considered that, were it not for the religious sects in Iraq, it would probably be peaceful there now? Have you considered the Church's supression of science and music for centuries? How about the The Troubles in Northern Ireland, where it was no unusual for religious gangs to kneecap those who followed a different denomination? Religious is by no means harmless, I can assure you.
