Why do most people have to get a job when they go to college? Couldnt you just take out student loans and pay them off when your done with college? I think you can pay for everything you need to go college when you take out loans. Once your finished with college you can pay off the debt a lot faster than working a minimum wage job.

You think its mostly because they want money for a car, gas, cell phone etc? When I go to college im gonna live on the bare basics. Only things I would buy are things I absolutely need.

That's what I'm doing. I'm probably going to be in debt my whole life unless I get rich from something. I'm getting multiple degrees, so yeah.

Because it costs a helluva lot of money, because student loans aren't unlimited, because even if they were paying all of college with them would be unfeasible, because they still need money for food and entertainment.

College loans can take an entire lifetime to pay off--longer if one goes to graduate school.

I was a full time student in the fall/spring semesters, and got a summer job. Worked out quite nicely. And the saving I had up, 2 years of college I haven't been in debt...yet. The other 2 years will be a problem >__>

Work the summer? I pull in $17k over the summer and that pays for all my tuition, rent, book and meal costs with some to spare.

Because massive debt is the last thing someone fresh out of university needs. Trust me... being debt free is an amazing experience. I am glad the Canadian government subsidises most post-secondary tuition costs... or I wouldn't have been able to attend.

So basically you don't like having a social life? Honestly, it is not that hard. It takes time but at least you will have some money in your pocket.

Because I don't want to spend the rest of my life paying of loans. I want them out of the way (or prevented entirely, which is where I am right now) early.

And living costs money. Sure, you're saying you'll live on the bare basics, but for the 4 or so years you'll be in school, are you never going to want to go out with friends, buy a few beers, or even need a cell phone for anything?

And having jobs on a resume is never a bad thing.

i have loans and grants but at the end of the day i need money for food and rent and books, getting a job is just what you gotta do, i envy kids who have parents who can pay for all their expenses and they don't gotta work but i don't have that luxuory.

I think when I do go im not gonna have a job and if it gets boring I would get a job. Be better to get a job later on than to quit a job later on. Plus im gonna have my tribe help pay for my college. They pay $5000 a year and $1000 a semester if you get good grades. I would get a summer job since it wouldnt interfere with my education. Then theres grants to help pay for my room and board.

From what I think,I can go to college without a job during the school year.

some people like to be able to do stuff on the weekends with friends. Money to do things is a big motivator. Also you have to be able to pay for gas to get to college.

I would live in the dorms though,so I wouldnt need a vehicle. I got a bicycle and want to get better at it so I would ride my bicycle everywhere. I think my friends would be the types to play video games and watch tv. Nothing really expensive.

I hope you plan on attending a college close by you because riding a bike isn't practical when you need to return home and you live hours away. Also living in the dorms is fine, but there are limited upper-class rooms available so you better be quick to jump onto one or you're out of luck. Not going to lie either.. dorms can drive some absolutely insane lol.

I understand why you don't want to get a job (guessing you are also someone who doesn't have a job in high school either). However, I fail to see how you would consider yourself a zombie if you had a job and school at the same times. You would still have plenty of free-time to do other things. A part-time job doesn't involve working 30-40 hour weeks. Heck you can work 20 or less and still earn enough money to beable to purchase items you find nescessary. There are plenty of great students who work part-time jobs, find plenty of time for studies, and also plenty of social time when in college.

Idk.. I can't change your views and it seems like you are dead set on not having a job. That is fine and I hope everything works out for you in the future :).

Well it depends on the country you live in. In the US tuition can cost something like 20-30k A YEAR. Up here in Canada(where I live) thats enough to pay for my entire degree.

So in the US you're looking at having a debt load of 80-120k upon graduation (more if you go for graduate school). I don't know about you but I'd certainly like to start paying that off as early as possible so having a job during school helps lighten that debt load.

This may surprise you TC, but there are a lot of people who are graduating and are not getting a job when they finish school because the economy sucks. Just because you can't find a job doesn't mean the loan companies don't want their money. Then, your credit goes down the drain and that makes it even harder still because some good jobs actually require decent credit (they feel that they can't trust you if your credit is bad). I used alternate means to get money for college (the military ) because I didn't like the idea of paying back student loans for years. Especially in a situation where my pay is barely enough as it is without the addition of another loan.
