people defend bad cops for the same reason they defend political theft, nurture. that is, they were taught to do so by their government.
Most cops are decent people who are doing a very hard job. It's not their fault that they have to enforce ridiculous laws made by oblivious higher-ups.
It's a shame that they are limited to guarding the line between the poor/desperate, and the middle classed.
Look at the police of some other countries and how corrupt they are, and you'd realize how good the ones here are. They do have oversight and they are reviewed. Maybe not completely transparent, but its not like they can act with impunity.
You gave me a nice reminder of my first trip to the Philippines. I wasn't even out of the airport parking lot and the police were trying to get bribes off of me and one told me after the fact that he wanted $20 for letting him use his cell phone to call my then-fiancee when I couldn't find her right away.
Don't get me started on the cops I had to deal with in Afghanistan, most of whom were working on the side for the Taliban or dealing drugs. Makes even the most corrupt American police officers look great.
Hey, wait...isn't Nibroc the guy who was defending the murders committed by Chris Dorner?
Discussing the police with him is kind of like discussing race relations with David Duke. Why bother?
I know there were a lot of people defending Dorner both on and off of this forum. Especially the anti-police crowd who was just happy police officers were being gunned down even though their family members were killed too or thought the manhunt was a conspiracy to hide LAPD corruption.
If you thought Nibroc's comments were funny you should have went to the comments section of news stories covering the manhunt. People were calling him a hero, hoping that he would get away, and even hoping Dorner would kill off some government officials.

It's funny you'd compare it to politics, when most people dont trust any politician 100%

Oh, I know that other people felt the same way. I'm just saying that once a person hates a certain group of people so much that he defends the brutal murder of those people and their families, then that person is probably closed to any kind of rational discussion on the issue. You can argue with those people if you want, and try to explain to them why that's wrong. But honestly...Dorner wasn't just targeting SPECIFIC cops that he had a problem with. He murdered the daughter of one of his colleagues just because she was the wrong person's daughter, and he basically declared war on ALL cops (which apparently includes people just like him, since he was also a former cop). Anyone who can seriously defend that is NOT someone whose mind you're going to change through discussion. If someone's views are THAT freaking radical and at odds with societal norms, then chances are that nothing you can say will ever make a difference.
Again, it's like the whole religion debate. You can argue if you want to, but there's nothing you can tell the opposing party that they haven't already heard. You're free to believe that the person's thoughts are irrational, but give them a little bit of credit. They KNOW that people think that their thoughts are irrational, they've heard all of the criticisms, and they still believe stuck to their beliefs. That's not to say that they'll never change their minds, but it won't be because of YOU. If anything, it'll be because THEY changed as people and figured this $hit out for THEMSELVES.
White supremacists? I'm not gonna waste my time arguing with them. I know that they're wrong, but it's not as if THEY are somehow unaware of how unpopular their beliefs are. If freaking SOCIETY didn't have enough weight to stop people from joining the KKK and declaring the supremacy of the white race, then what chance do I have? That's the point at which it's probably better for me to just grimace in disgust, and then promptly ignore it before moving on to something else.
