I agree with the few posts that say popular bands don't really add meaning to their lyrics. Music is a great thing but with the right lyrics added to it, it sounds amazing, stunning, words cannot describe songs like these.
bands like Manic Street Preachers pulled this off on their third album 'The Holy Bible'. Words will be stretched and twisted to fit the music. Guitars will sound jagged and distorted and the drumming is compressed in the back ground. Its dark, bleak album but simply amazing.
Haha everyone quoted me, I feel so good.
I love hits, I love popular music. I don't care if you're a major label band, or an indie band.
What I meant is, people generalize pop music to be crappy, you just have to look deeper.
Music is completely subjective to the listener,
what makes this number 1 hit, better then that number 1 hit?
You can like whatever you want, but just cause a band is on VH1, does not automatically make them suck.
Guitar solo's and ridiculous playing all over a guitar doesn't mean anything (to me, anyway).
If you delved deeper into a band's actual chord charts, melody and harmony lines, you would find that both indie and pop music bands can both be very complex, and very simple.
A song can be musically complex, but that doesnt mean your slamming on every single fret on the guitar.
[QUOTE="MM87"]Everyone loved them and when they were in Guitar Hero III everyone liked them wrlyy
Why are you saying We? Do you count as everyone now?
i think it's pretty much cause people think a band is too overrated and that too many people like that band so even if they liked the band at one point, they'll say something like "i liked that band before they became mainstream" i've heard people say this about bands like Avenged Sevenfold, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Boys Like Girls.
i guess some people just like to listen to bands that most people don't know about. i've liked a band called Egypt Central for a while, even before they were signed. i just like whatever music i like, even if it's a popular band. it doesn't matter to me if everyone likes a band or if no one knows about it, i just listen to the music that i like. i don't care who else likes it
It might be the fact that they keep playing the same exact songs EVERYWHERE so you do tend to get annoyed.Ilived
that's true. that's why the radio gets annoying as hell. and that's why i don't listen to the radio. and that's why there's burned cd's, ipods, and music to download and listen to on your computer :P
I don't hate popular bands, I just hate bands that suck, and those two fit the list quite well.Zaeryn

Reason why i said "Who dosen't hate bands that suck?" In the first place.
Some people think that if a band gets played on the radio then they're crap. Some people just don't like that kind of music. Some people don't like to conform so they'll force themselves to not like bands that are popular because it makes them feel cool.
Are those good enough reasons for you?
Because its cool to listen to this less-known music thats wiked cool. But once it starts becoming popular, it sucks. I don't get it really.Cube_of_MooN
Listen, you can think whatever you wanna think but when I listen to a song too many times(whether it's from someone I like or not), it gets old and I never want to hear it again.

Why i said it.. lol
I don't. What I hate is the the idea of a mainstream... Bands convert over to sound a certain way just to gain popularity and wealth... It's disgusting. I like a lot of more popular music... Like Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Tool, Ect. But, I don't reject bands without giving them a fair chance first. But, yet again, the idea of a 'mainstream' infuriates me. And so many bands get shot down these days or looked over because they don't fall into a certain genre. And really, people hear what genre a band is, or see a picture of them and then form an opinion on them... Which makes no sense.
That's why I admired the early grunge scene so much... People expressed themselves so freely in it, they wore clothes for comfort and reliability more than style. Bands didn't sound a certain way, and you can't really say they did. And it was just musical freedom, really. But, then once it became the mainstream... All the idiots started to wear flannel just because their idols were wearing it. And that happens with everything, it's depressing.
