I'm not understanding this, why is there so much over laptops?

I bought a desktop replacement. I can take my laptop anywhere and play any game on the market right now. Portability is awesome, running games/blu rays on an HD laptop is cool, steam rules when I can take it anywhere, etc., etc.
Portability is a big deal to me. It's like having a reeeeally powerful DS whenever I want. It's a gaming desktop jammed into something I can take wherever I want, whenever I want. It's awesome.
i am buying a new chinese 7" mini laptop with windows ce, i am sure its nearly not worthy but at least i will finally have a laptop. for me the real deal is about working at ease, i can be in bed or sofa in a relaxing position and still be able do stuff with laptop like writing etc.
I need a computer on the road with me from time to time and a desktop can't do that. Also when it comes to laptops vs tablets I prefer a physical keyboard.
Silly question really. Anyone who travels a lot will most certainly prefer a laptop over a desktop; laptops are a lot more compact, easier to carry around obviously, albeit a decent amount more expensive than a desktop of similar quality.
I have a gaming laptop because of limited space, I really don't have room for even an HTPC and I was worried about putting good parts in such a small case anyway because of heat so a laptop was the best compromise.
I theory they're great however you're pretty reliant on having a network connection which ATM means wifi (mobile connections have terrible limits). They're a lot better than they used to be, now you can actually afford one which will run properly on battery power.

Why not just get a shuttle style SFF PC? They were coming out at pretty similar price maybe about £100 cheaper, but that's excluding laptop stuff (I don't use the screen it's hooked up to my TV but still, gotta allow for that extra expense, and it's nice to have the option to take it places if I need) and getting the Shuttle would have meant having to completely reorganise the tiny space under my desk and probably only leave room for one console so it really wasn't worth it.
Portability. I can take it up to my room if I want or to school. It's also pretty fast and does everything I need it to from editing to word processing.
Would you want to carry around a 30 pound desktop? Not me. I don't want to carry around my MachV and all the neccessary items for it. I can put a laptop, printer and the needed cords all in a backpack that I can take with me no matter where I go and use it all without being plugged in anywhere.
So I can sit in starbucks with my thick-rimmed black glasses, purposefully unkempt hair, and buttoned up green and blue plaid shirt pretending to write a book but really just surfing liberal websites.
