Portability and the fact that for the things that most people want to do (surf the web, listen to music, and maybe watch a movie) it's good enough.

That's a tablet argument. Laptops roll with i7 processors, making them both portable and mega-powerful. Ivy Bridge is going to further close teh gap between traditional desktop machines and laptops.

Because I'm sitting on my bed while I'm typing this. There is no space in my room for a desk and a bulky desktop and a chair.

Like every has already said, portability. I watch alot of tv shows/movies on my laptop. I hook it up to my tv with the hdmi and I get a big picture with better sound. PLus if I want a computer with me on a trip or at school, I can just throw it in a bag. What I doon't understand is the recent fad of making everything as thin and light as possible. The thin light computers generally have less processing power and less HDD space, yet they cost more money. Im not really bothered by carrying a 5 lb laptop in my backpack when I know I saved like $800 over a laptop that is lighter but just as powerful.

Because when the Desktop computer was in the living room, I got tired of fapping in there at night. I talked my parents into getting me a laptop for school. Best year ever haha
