Look, I've been in 9th grade for a while now, I'm not being emo or a typical deppressed teenager or anything, but what is really so interesting about HighSchool that makes it the best years of your life? Why do people keep throwing that in my face?

people tell me the same thing too. im sure it will pick up once we can drive and stuff
I dont know at all either and im in 9th grade to! I went homeschooling for a year in grade 8 and my whole family turned against me telling me to go back just because of high schoolbeing all important but wtf is the point when you have all the popular kids hating on you? I had like 5 friends who were average normal people like me "we weren't like those kids in the chess room" and even then i got hated on same with them.
No point going somewhere where you cant even learn! I mean i obviously got forced back to school but why? I learn better when i home school and i don't have to deal with everybody.
well a lot of you people complaining about high school right now are freshman that have been in it for like a month....
by the time your juniors/seniors have a lot more freedom, know what your doing, familiar with everyone, can drive, you start being able to pick classes you want, have more friends, and become more adultish...it gets a lot better...
by the end of this year you wont be complaining and hate it so much....
Only losers say that. People get stuck in that sophomoric state and can never achieve anything else. If high school is the epitome of your existence, than that is truly sad.22Toothpicks
I don't think it's to be taken literally that those 4 years are most definetly the greatest you are going to have. It's just a time when life for you is most likely much simpler than what is to come.. just having fun with your friends, getting into all sorts of trouble, chasing girls, having a sense independence for the first time, going on dates, going to the school dances, all those "remember when so and so did this and that" good times type moments. Not to mention playing on sports teams representing your city or town.. all the little groups or cliques.. jocks, cheerleaders, etc.. It is usually a good time in anybodies life.. that is if you make an effort for it to be.
Because after high school you'll have to start paying rent and bills.SympathyForLdyV

High school CAN be the greatest years of your life, but take some words of advice from someone who is only 5 years removed from high school (has a master's now and working full time)...
1) Do not take on responsibility- Ok, what does this mean? Do NOT get a job. I don't care if you want more money to buy more stuff. Be a mooch. Don't eat lunch and save lunch money for shopping. Get photoshop and have people pay you for MySpace stuff. But a real official job where your on another schedule? AVOID THIS! These are the last 4 years (maybe second to last 4, depending on how you do college) where you have no real responsibility that can't affect the rest of your life too negatively).
2) Don't learn to drive until late senior year (I learned early junior year)- Once again, mooch. Let someone else learn to drive that is a friend, ket them deal withtheir parents sending them on errands, let them deal with getting a job for a crap car.
3) Not having a girlfriend/boyfriend ISN'T the end of the world- HS guys/girls will be immature like you and will just cause drama. Dating is fine, but don't take things at this point in your life that seriously. You've been around maybe 12-15 years that you can actually remember and most of you have another 60 left. Don't try to lock yourself into anything. Just have fun and be safe about. "Don't be a fool, wrap up your tool." -Van Wilder
If you just learn to not take life too seriously and just take things in stride, they will DEFINATELY be some of the best years of your life. But you have plenty more that can be just as good. Which brings me to...
4) Respect your teachers, do your studying, and take away the bigger message- Ok, school sucks. We all know it. Your wrangled like cattle in the morning onto the bus, forced to sit in a bunch of drab rooms for 6-7 hours to listen to people 30 years older than you that are bitter from having to deal with your peers all day. This is the reality for everyone. But just look at what they're really doing, they're preparing you for the real world. Cuz guess what?
In 4 years (8-12, depending on what you do for college), you're going to be wrangling yourself into a 9 hour job, to sit in a drab room, to listen to someone 30 years older than you who is bitter from dealing with your peers. And yes, this may sound like a bit of a sarcastic way of putting it but for the bulk of you (I really hope it is the bulk), this is your reality. Not that it's all bad, these office jobs can make you a decent living and but you into a good position for life. But it's up to you to get there, NOT your teachers. And not even your parents. At age 14, you can make your own decisions.
I'm not saying everyone should shoot for Harvard, but at least do fair (Bs). That's not that bad and with decent SATs gets you into a good school and get a good job. As much as those are your best 4 years, they can also direct the other 60 completely.
