I'm just as puzzled as you are, if not more so since I wouldn't even say Led Zeppelin is a "good" band. Not by my standards anyway. Doesn't really bother me though, as long as no one's forcing me to listen to it.

I don't even like Led Zeppelin, but that's bs. They are really good at what they do.
Of course they are. Extremely talented musicians, I'd be crazy to deny that. I just think it takes more than technical skill to make good music. Led Zep feels soulless to me, they bore me. Thus, I can say without a doubt that they're good musicians, but I can't say they make good music.
It is a good song by a good band but it's not the best!

It's an excellent song that's well known - that's why. But man, Achilles Last Stand is much better in my opinion and much better deserving of the "best song ever" title.

The general majority has pretty much voted that Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven are the best songs ever. That's why they are generally referred to as the best.

Funny, I've never really listened to this song till today.. It's not anywhere near the best.. It's good, but not near the best. It actually reminds me of Buckethead + Queen O.o.. Tons of music is better though.

I can say with a fair amount of certainty that no one I know thinks that is the best song ever.

Who do you know? LoL... Lot's of people. But most of them would likely pick something by Aretha Franklin or Al Green. I, on the other hand, would never even try to pick any one song. But mostly, this would come down to cultural differences and/or preference like almost everything else.

Let me break it down. It starts off as a slow guitar pick and then slowly goes through the motions of rock then shows the elements of metal and then they turn into gods once Page starts off the solo. It's a rock opera in one song and it doesn't matter how much you disect the song and strip it down. It has so many different meanings that this song will never truly be revealed as it has no face. In other words this song goes on forever.
Stairway to Heaven is an incredible and classic song for many reasons but I fully agree that Bohemian Rhapsody is the greatest song ever. In the Air Tonight is pretty high up there to :).

I grew up on that song. Johnny Cash and Lynrd Skynrd as well.
Kinda like how Freebird is a classic song yet for some reason most people don't know of the song Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws which is just as epic if not MORE epic and features the same guitarist who played in Lynard Skynard I do believe...
Hell, the only reason I even learned of that song was thanks to Rock Band....
