Well, I'm from Canada, and everyone I know from here takes their shoes off when they walk in the door. When I went to the States, though, the one house I went in too, I got a weird look for taking my shoes off. I feel odd walking through a house wearing shoes.

I do believe shoes are dirty. And nobody wants their home to be dirty. Right?

CZVA

No one wants their home to be dirty, that's why doormats and brooms and mops were invented. Unless you've been walking in cow pies, whatever grit comes off your shoes isn't any worse than all the dust and fly feces and skin particles that's all over your floor but you can't see it.

Thanks. I'm never going barefoot in my house again.

I hate those kinds of restrictions. I don't wear my boots in the house but will choose to do so if I feel like it.

I've always considered it being a bad host to insist visitors take off their shoes. If you really can't handle guests putting a little wear and tear on your carpets, don't invite them over.

Walking around in socks just feels weird, and I can sense them getting dirty. Shoes are much more comfortable anyway. I only take them off to bed, or if they're wet and/or muddy I'll let them dry out I guess.

Who cares if your carpet is dirty? Are you rolling around on it licking the floor? If so, you should stop.

That's pretty much how I feel. Shoes are just another piece of clothing for me. I like to put them on and take them off only once a day.

Besides saving wear and tear on both your shoes and carpet your feet will feel so much better and smell so much nicer when they are released from the unnatural prison of being contained in footwear all day long.

I feel the same way about trousers and the rest of clothing which is why I go without at home and when I lived in the country ......

and I was sad then the local clothing optional beach was closed.

Shoes are for outside IMO. I either wear socks or go barefoot at my house. At other peoples' houses, always socks.

I wear home shoes. I find lack of footwear somewhat dirty. I can't stand seeing someone with dirty socks, so I wear socks and shoes at all times.

Why do people capitalize every word in their thread title?....

*Ahem* I take my shoes on carpets. On hard floors though, it's a toss up with wearing shoes or socks...

I don't wear shoes or socks while at home. Never understood the fascination with footwear. Bareness is infinitely more comforting.

dhyce
That's only true on carpet, which only covers about 1/10th of my house. In my last apartment, which was all carpeted, I didn't wear shoes around.

I always wear socks in my own home, on account of the bare human foot being a thing of surpassing ugliness. I always wear shoes in other people's homes on account of being a sociopath :)

Since I was a kid Ive been taking my shoes n slippas off before I enter anyone's house. I noticed people from mainland hardly every do this and, its really disrespectful imo. Plus it drags all the dirt in.
