You misunderstand me: my belief is that most religious people reject evolution because they believe it is not possible for morality to have evolved; they believe that God is necessary to determine right from wrong and thus find evolution to be ludicrous. You misunderstand me: my belief is that most religious people reject evolution because they believe it is not possible for morality to have evolved; they believe that God is necessary to determine right from wrong and thus find evolution to be ludicrous.CptJSparrow
Are you sure it's most?

Definitely on GS, however I was leaning more towards that being the primary reason rather than being the major belief of Christians, though they may or may not still hold that belief regardless of their stance on whether or not evolution occurs--I find that likely, as even those who are very scientific still look to the Bible for morality.[QUOTE="Mr_Mohawk"]You have read genesis 2, havn't you? Where all the animals are created by God to find a helper for Adam? How is that not contradicted by evolution?

Can you prove that God was not the guiding force behind the evolution? No. So there is no problem inbelieving both.
God guiding it would conflict with Darwin's Evolution Theory; natural selection etc. So yes there is some degree of problem there;) I guess if you said god created the first single celled organism or whatever was first, then that could work.
Why do you feel the need to believe that religious people can't believe in both?LJSEXAY
Because one cannot believe that the earth and life was created in six days but evolved over billions of years. This is like asking why can't a woman be half pregnant. To clear things up, I never said that one cannot believe in evolution and God. All I'm asking is how can one literally believe in Genesis and believe evolution.
Evolution explains how organisms change, not how the earth or universe was created.

I know but I threw it in there because the changes the planet went through had an extremely huge impact on how life evolved.
I just saw a great episode on the topic of Evolution vs Intelligent Design on Nova. You should head over there: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/id/. It's about this town in the US that tried to make ID part of the curriculum. It explains everything about the 2 sides and also gives a lot of background and explanation.
The judge in the case basically said that ID is not science and cannot be taught in schools because it's nothing more than religion dressed up as science. This is forbidden because the Constitution mandates a separation of church and state. Even the major witness for ID had to admit that by his guidelines, astrology would be considered a science. As for the "it's only a theory" argument against evolution, a real scientist said that all of science is theories. It's not the "law of gravity" but the "theory of gravity". In science, theories actually have more weight than facts.
The ID people on the show found the idea that we evolved from animals, offensive. They believe that man's creation must have served a higher purpose than just random chance.

Pst...it doesn't.
It does :|yes, it most definitely does. Â[QUOTE="JJ4545"]Evolution is fact.rimnet00
ROFL... not even then the top scientists will say that. It's a theory, not fact.
This kind of show how well you understand what a theory is.Another very well known theory is gravity, but it's not fact right?
[QUOTE="Bourbons3"]It does :|LJS9502_basic
Actually...it does not.
Person originally quoted failed to specify if he meant Young Earth Creationism or creation in general, so I am compelled to agree with you.[QUOTE="Bourbons3"][QUOTE="LJSEXAY"][QUOTE="bebopoutlaw3gun"]Cause it contradicts creationism.hamstergeddon

It does :|yes, it most definitely does.Yup, The Genesis account of creation states that plants, flying creatures, sea monsters, land animals and man were created, and they were to reproduce according to their kinds. There's no evolution there.

The difference is that the existence of gravity can be proven experimentally.
How would it be a fact if the fossil record completely disagree with it?
Mutations, the raw materials needed for evolution, cannot produce anything new (not to mention they're usually destructive).
The theory of evolution has failed in these areas where it can be tested.
