[QUOTE="fidosim"][QUOTE="Tauruslink"] Oh yeah, what ever would we do without her invaluable and insightful commentaries on politics!?chessmaster1989

She could be the next president.

I really doubt that she would be elected (or even win the nomination). I'd lose all faith in the American people if she were elected president.

Same here. Heck after she resigned polls indicated she lost more ground with Republicans than anyone else. I think she's happy to just let it roll and make book money and so forth.

Take Abe Lincoln as an example. He had less than a year of formal education. But you wouldn't say he was stupid, would you?fidosim
No, but I wouldn't use him as great example of the average citizen either. What's next? Einstein as the average European and Marie Curie as the average woman? Please...

Einstein and Curie were intelligent. No amount of higher education would have saved them if they were stupid.

Let's not make asumptions. We need statistics to prove our points.

Well the statistics you gave me said that most people with college educations were liberals. Then you used this to say that having a college education makes a person more intelligent. Your statistics do nothing to prove your point.

That wasn't my argument. My argument was that Lincoln's intelligence was on their level, and to use him as an example of an "average citizen" succeeding without the need for a college education is flat out ridiculous, mainly because Lincoln was not average. Seriously. You're insulting a great president here...

I think it's time to give it up; this person is not going to believe that a college education is beneficial to a person's development.

I'm not using him as an "average citizen" i'm using him to show that the amount of "education" someone has does nothing to determine that person's intelligence.

I'm not referring to my statistics or I'd say so. I'm talking about educational statistics in general.

That seems awfully farfetched. I would look up some stats but I'm too tired. Perhaps later.

I don't know what statistics you can use to determine anyone's real intelligence. College degrees don't determine it, and IQ only goes so far. Plus there are different kinds of intelligence. Some people are more creatively inclined but not strong in math, some people are the opposite.

I will just add this...In IQ testing...half of the subtests have to do with crystallized intelligence which is formed through learning...thus education does have something to do with determining intelligence in a literal sense....and while someone does not have to go to school to become intelligent and there are certain things that can't be taught in school, an education does help you practice and fine tune those skills and you gain a good foundation of knowledge over years that cannot just be gained in a year of cramming etc...

Um... so... in other words... the fact that Abraham Lincoln was able to work as a lawyer and become president proves that any Joe Schmoe can be as successful without wasting time on college? The fact that Lincoln was a lot more intelligent than average had absolutely nothing to do with his personal success at all...? Really? No, a person does not need a college education to be intelligent. But only a moron would think that a college education would get in the way of using that intelligence more effectively.

Whaa-? I never said that college got in the way of success. I said that education =/= brain power. Lincoln wasn't educated, but he was intelligent. But if Lincoln hadn't gotten his lucky break in politics, he would have lived and died as a prarie hick from Illinois. There's nothing to say that there aren't intellectually gifted people out there who have not attended college.

I agree. Though we do have a lot of instinctual knowledge, both genetic and learned through day to dayt activity, education definitely fine tunes it and adds to the knowledge pool while giving students challenge and competition.

Nice word there. Tripe. Very expressive.

Yeah it's pretty obvious she's a simpleton.

I don't think that's what we're saying... we're saying that yes, of course there are such people. However, Sarah Palin is not among them. ;)

I think they should hate less on Palin and more on people like Hannity and Limbaugh.
