It's crazy how so many people hate hip hop and rap. They hate it for such stupid reasons, and it really makes me mad.

I want to know why people hate rap so much. The people who hate rap/hip hop always say "the only thing rappers talk about is hoes and money and about how hardcore they are" um no:|
Thats like saying every person who plays rock music sings about drugs and sex.
It's like saying every person who sings country music only sings about their wife leaving them and everything going wrong.

Why are people so stupid?? If you hate rap, give a good reason (it is kind of weird to hate a whole genre of music though)
I really am tired of people hating on rap, this "popular" guy on youtube just made a video of why he hates rap.

He of course says what every other person who hates rap says, which is "rappers only talk about hoes and how hardcore they are"
Here is the video http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7RRAx0ujGA
Why does this idiot have to insult a whole genre of music??

This guy is the biggest moron of all time!! He says he owned every single person who likes rap.
Um, all he did was insult rap with saying what everyone else says about it. He didn't own anyone..
I hate people like him, I won't insult rock and be like him, you know why?? Because I am not a moron and I like all music.

So why do people hate rap so much?? Why do people even bother to hate rap songs and complain about it constantly??
I mean, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but going around saying your igronant opinion can piss people off sometimes.

I don't hate rap, but I do dislike the genre in general. I do look a few songs here and there though. Honestly, I find the music incredibly boring, I think it might be partially due to the fact that lyrics are last on my list of importance when listening to music.

I don't "hate" it but I do dislike it. Talking over a synthesized drum beat isn't really "music" to my ears.

Misconceptions and failure to understand that there are "some" good rap/hip hop out there. Mainstream pretty much made the the genre look like complete ****.

The sound of it annoys me along with the culture. The only kind of rap I like is 80's old school but in comparison to todays stuff it is totally different.

Meh, it just dosent appeal to me but I have heard some good songs before but other than that its just one of those music styles that I dont like due to its image and way of thinking and its pretty much overplayed everywhere. Rap and Hip Hop arn't really heavy or dark music styles neither. I could be wrong though.

No I'm not kidding. I get sick of hearing certain rappers complain about how blacks have it so hard when we were wayyyyy past that time and day. It's not white peoples faults that the majority of ghettos are blacks. They can stay in school go to college and work for a better home and life like everyone else. Instead of saying stuff like "I grew up hard white man kept us down but (racist expletive) I made it but gonna keep being a straight G". And lyrics like that deserve praise? I think not.

I don't hate hip hop or rap, I just prefer different music types. Rap and hip hop may get less respect by older generations because each genre is often left behind as an individual matures.

When I was younger, I loved rap and hip hop. As I grew older, my taste in most things, including music, evolved to what I would argue is a more refined level. Rap and hip hop are incapable of consistently representing a compatable message to that intellectual growth, so I don't listen to it anymore.

As I grew older I never lost my appreciation for hip-hop. I have expanded my taste much more, but hip-hop is still my favorite genre.

Prove me wrong then. Show me what people here call "political true real hip hop" that doesn't have a rich black man complaining that he grew up hard because he didn't wanna go to school or college and work or had a dad that walked out on them. I'm sick of hearing the same story over and over in so called true hip hop. They can go write a biography. And I refuse to take a rappers story serious when they use racist words so much. That's why I prefer mainstream because none of it is actually meant to be serious.

Todays and yesterdays mainstream hip-hop and rap mostly is just garbage. I hate it for what it typically represents and the mindset it promotes, it's repetitive nature, and lack of lyrical and musical depth in general.

Not to say all hip-hop and rap is bad. The underground is where it's at. How people can think they are enjoying that crap on MTV is beyond me.

I mean, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but going around saying your igronant opinion can piss people off sometimes.

joshrocks2245

I don't hate rap at all. I'll get that out right away.

That said, there's a lot of things that bug me about it. For instance, troupes. I hate them. I hate when a rapper goes onstage to perform, there's like 5 or 6 guys jumping and running around, yelling out random "Hoooooooh!"s and "Yeah!"s and "What! What! Uh! Uh!"s, and other annoying sounds. It's ridiculous and is the rap equivalent of getting the soundcheck guys to perform your music. Fun for maybe one joke song, once a decade, but never more than that.

I hate the trivial lyrics in many songs today. Yes, I know they're just as generic as in other genres, but since when are songs about lipgloss, "Yah Trick Yah"(???), "superman"ing a girl, and proving your worth as a girlfriend by yur ability to pop-lock and get to crotch level as quick as possible, etc. good topics for songs? At least other music genres stick to non-ludicrous song topics. Also, I realize there are many awesome songs by rap artists. I'm just saying that there's a hefty amount of utterly mindless songs with awesome beats that should be credited to the producer rather than the rapper, because te producer's the only one making those songs any good. Seriously, when stuff like "Hanh" (seriously long intro, but the atrocity of the song is worth it).

The music videos are crap. It's pretty bad when I spot a music video and am able to recognize the dancer girls because they're in so many music videos. Also, rappers tossing out bills of money is really cliche and lame. We all know it's fake cash, and the car in your music video is a rental. Jeez.

The expletives. Trust me, I listen to music that has a fair amount of it, but there comes a time when you have to realize you're going overboard. Is this really necessary?(***WARNING*** serious expletives! rated R stuff right there) . Honestly.

Finally, it's played much too loud in people's cars. Combine that with the immense popularity, and I'm having trouble ether hearing the music in my car, hearing myself think, or I'm being woken up in the middle of the night by a passing car with so much bass that it's shaking things off my nightstand.

The music itself is interesting enough. I'll listen to intelligent rap, or well thought out rap, but the only thing I take from everything else is the beat. I do my best to just ignore the vocals and focus on the solid production.

Not to say all hip-hop and rap is bad. The underground is where it's at. How people can think they are enjoying that crap on MTV is beyond me.

You do know that Lupe Fiasco, the rapper you listen to the third most often according to your last.fm scrobbles, is in fact all over MTV and the radio.

Saul Williams also gets play on MTV. I even remember seeing Saul Williams perform "Black Stacy" live on MTV before too. Oh the irony in seeing 15 year old white chicks shaking their asses to that song...

Atmosphere was MTV's artist of the week not too long ago too.

Sage Francis, Immortal Technique, and El-P do not get play on MTV, but they are just your typical backpack rappers that everyone knows. Immortal Technique has been on BET's 106 and Park before though, which is America's most watched music countdown. He lost a freestyIe battle to Posta Boy on it, it was pretty funny...

You can thank the radio for making everyone hate it. Seriously, everyone in this thread that hates or "doesn't care" about hip hop and/or rap hasn't heard anything good. It's COMPLETELY different when you find some real talent.

Search:

Sweatshop Union - Radiot Edit/Truman Show/I've Got News

Jedi Mind Tricks - Heavy Metal Kings/Contra/Never Antiquated (I could go on)

Aesop Rock - Daylight

Swollen Members - Fuel Injected/Deep End

Please please do yourself a favor and search these songs people. I feel like the genre deserves far more respect than it gets.

F*** the radio.

Yes, I was very weary of Lupe when I first gave him a shot. But I did so at a friends recommendation. I was aware that he is pretty out there from what I'd heard. But I found him to be not so typical, something about his s_tyle that sets him apart from others in my view. Still yet, I'm really not all too into him. I racked up the plays just trying to fimiliarise myself with his two very extensive LPs.

Saul Williams I did get into through NIN, but his new album Niggytardust is very meh. I prefer his self-titled over it anyday. Not bad at all in my opinion.

I really wouldn't know about Atmosphere being on MTV. I don't watch tv hardly at all, so that includes BET.

What is it that you have against "backpack rappers" anyway? I've never understood poeple who hate on guys like Sage and Sole...

The music itself is interesting enough. I'll listen to intelligent rap, or well thought out rap, but the only thing I take from everything else is the beat. I do my best to just ignore the vocals and focus on the solid production. Lockedge
Search Sweatshop Union, Hilltop Hoods, and Swollen Members. Great lyrics from all of them. Very little expletives.

It isn't so much the backpack rappers we're against, it is (most) the people who listen to that type of Rap that carry on the elitist mentality.
