I don't feel comfortable discussing my reason.
But tell me why you believe in God or not.

I need proof and the bible offers nonealexmurrayAgree. No holy scripts contain any proof. History shows no proof of anything and in most cases shows the opposite.
Even with that I would consider myself agnostic.
regarding christianity in particular, I don't like the whole "you're a sack of crap, join our club so you don't have to go to hell forever for being what you are." method of recruiting.
[QUOTE="Hamster-of-Fate"]people need religion. it gives them strength to move on 2 their pathetic lifes6_voltsBy what you have said, it sounds like you're the pathetic one.

Throwing petty insults at people over the internet is way cool. 8)god loves us so much that he made a place called hell where people who don't believe in him goes and suffer for all eternity.
Thats just how much he LOVES you all

You said it gave us strength to move on with our pathetic lives, how do you know they're pathetic? And does it bother you that we believe in God? If you don't believe in Him that's fine, but don't go calling people pathetic because they believe in Him.[QUOTE="Mr_sprinkles"]regarding christianity in particular, I don't like the whole "you're a sack of crap, join our club so you don't have to go to hell forever for being what you are." method of recruiting.

Haha, sorry I guess "you are a very naughty boy" wouldn't have sounded quite as 'edgy' :P[QUOTE="123625"][QUOTE="Mr_sprinkles"]regarding christianity in particular, I don't like the whole "you're a sack of crap, join our club so you don't have to go to hell forever for being what you are." method of recruiting.

Haha, sorry I guess "you are a very naughty boy" wouldn't have sounded quite as 'edgy' :PWell, i don't think christianity considers human beings in general "worthless" or "hopeless" or anything like that? Was that what you're trying to say? I think it considers people sinners? in other words they have done bad things, but are not inherently worthless.
123625, what I'm trying to say is I don't agree with the idea that doing one bad thing makes you a bad person. And so the rest of the "now this is how you can be saved" spiel doesn't do much for me.Mr_sprinkles
Okay, thanks for clarifiction, I don't think christianity considers people bad, just that they have done bad actions and are sinners. Oh and people do a hell of alot more than one bad thing ;) Though i would be interested in some verses defending your position.

You have no idea. This is my view, if I had lived 100 years ago I would believe in god, it would explain alot that cant the explained. But today we can explain things and science does it wellalexmurray
Science has nothing to do with religion. At one time I considered becoming a Quantum Physicist, and yet I believe in God and am actually probably going into the seminary to become a priest. Science cannot explain how the universe ultimitely came to be not even close. And that's where God comes in. If science was so great it would have easily disproved God by now. And dispproved the hundreds of christian miracles that can still be seen in European churches and stuff today and yet they can't.

I'm not sure if I would agree to this necessarily, because I formed my opinion from the Bible and not because of current events. I would say if I had lived 2000 years ago, I would have a better answer. ;)

People do do a hell of a lot more than one bad thing. but people also do a hell of a lot of good things. In christianity they don't matter a jot unless you're 'saved', and that just rubs me the wrong way.I don't have verses :o I got rid of my bible after I left philosophy class.

Ah i see, well the point of christianity is not just offer salvation to the good, but also offer it to bad. It offers salvation to anyone who is repentful and lives in Jesus. Admittably though there are people who do alot of good, but the good doesn't wash away the bad. I feel if God judged that way, he would only be loving us based on what we do, not what we are ;)
And the bible is a great book, why throw it out :o

But the thing there is that what one believes is a fundamental reflection of who that person is. That's the biggest problem I have with with the whole "believe in Jesus to get saved" - that's basically saying that God's playing favorites with whomever grew up and was shaped in a way that made that person more open to the belief that Jesus is the Son of God and all that.

How do you know God created Hell?
The Bible says he created Heaven and the Earth.

Good point, but I still beleive Jesus is the only way to be with God.
