Why Do You Think Virginity Is So Different For Men and Women?

For men is a a weight that should be lifted off our backs but for women it is something to be lost and taken away. ie "she lost her virginity/He took her virginity away?

I don't know. I find it to be a bit ridiculous actually. I mean if a guy sleeps with a lot of girls he is considered a "pimp" or cool and looked highly upon. But if a girl sleeps around a lot, they are considered a slut or whore and looked down upon. Its weird.

A guy who sleeps with alot of women gets no respect in my eyes just like a woman who is sleeping around. People place WAY too much of an emphasis on sex in our society which is sad. There probably wouldn't be so many people whining about relationships if they actually thought things through more.

I always thought it was because guys have a much stronger libido. When some guy says he got laid another guy would say they're lucky...."congrats"..."you da' man!"...etc.

Girls: I guess its 'cause their weak libido doesn't justify "sin".

There is purity associated with a womans virginity, but for men it is like a sign of weakness to be a virgin. It is just a double standard of society. Once you are grown nobody is a virgin anymore so that ceases to be a factor.

I think less of them. I find the whole macho "I'm a pimp" thing stupid and I personally believe very much in sleeping with someone for a reason rather than one night stand crap.

It isn't like I neccessarily look down on them, but when I hear people go on about their escapades I just have to roll my eyes. I think it's funny how people think I would give a damn about their sexual experience or that they are special because they got some.

In terms of girls it can be a bigger issue in the sense that it makes them much less attractive to me if they have a history of sleeping around.

Coming from an biological/evolutionary point of view, that social standard arose because it's evolutionary beneficial for a male to have sex with as many females as possible and also beneficial for a male to ensure that the females he mates with mate with as few other males as possible.

Not to say that evolution created that standard, but rather that evolution created the brain that created the mentality that created that standard.

i believe women virginity is like matches , they only can be used once.

it's pretty much related to society, in arab world virginity b4 marrige is mandatory, women can be killed if they had sex b4 marraige, in America, virginty is no thing but a shame for girls above 16 or 17.

Weird and unfair. Stupid double standards. I don't applaud anyone who doesn't take sex seriously or who is irresponsible about it, but I do applaud someone- male or female- who is willing to do what's best for themselves and their sexuality. Whether it means refraining from sex altogether or being sexually active on a regular basis, it's something important for people to safely figure out for themselves.
