Why does alcohol taste SOO bad.

You are probably drinking crap vodka, or you are drinking it wrong. Or both.
Although, I'm not sure how you can screw up expensive vodka :?
Anyway, try some cocktails, or try a martini as those are always good.
However, if you want some whiskey, then go with Crown Royal and coke. Theres nothing like a crown and coke after work.

EDIT: To the guy above. Im drinking it with sprite, It takes me 10+ beers to get "trashed", which is more then my friends so I can tolerate a decent amount of alcohol. I think its cheap vodka, first time I bought 2 liters for $14. I usually get the 1liter for $10.

I disagree with "acquiring" the taste. I've tasted beers that I've tolerated, none that I've liked. It's too much work to acquire the taste. I do like wines and mixed drinks and some rums and whiskeys though.guynamedbilly

I've had drinks that I liked in SPITE of the alcohol. But I've never actually liked the taste of alcohol.

Now, drinks with a low alcohol content don't taste as strongly of alcohol. And with other drinks it is possible to either cover up the taste of alcohol or to produce the drink in such a way that it has pleasing flavors that override the taste of alcohol.

That's why the question is what it is IN the drink that tastes bad? As in, if you happen to hate wine, do you hate the flavor of the grapes? Or do you hate the taste of ALCOHOL?

Personally, for me, alcohol has never tasted good. That's not to say that there aren't alcoholic drinks which I love. But in all of those drinks, I can still taste the alcohol, and the alcohol still tastes bad.

Nope, but that's not really relevant. Fact is, when stuff tastes awful, that's often a sign that it's not good to consume. Feces taste awful too, and I don't see anyone advocating the consumption of THAT.

In that price range, I recommend Tito's vodka. It will be a little bit more than that, and it's weird because I can see it very cheap some places and then top of the line prices at others. It's my favorite to buy because of price to quality ratio.

I think we need to make a distinction between "kinds of alcohol" and "kinds of drinks". You bar might serve vodka, wine, beer, cognac, whiskey, rum, tequila, etc. But the kind of alcohol in all of those drinks is ethyl alcohol. "Types of alcohol" means methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, etc.

I notice people tend to find certain drinks they really enjoy and stick with them.

I personally love beer and Jagr and my all-time fav drink is probably Liquid Death, which is a combination of Jagr, Bacardi 151, and Goldschlagger. Jack Daniels has also been my friend at times.

I always wondered that as well. When I was 3 years old, I drank the whole bottle, it was horrible but I just span around and blacked out, when I woke up, I was 4 years oldJIT93

Reminds me of my third time ever drinking when I downed 13 shots of hard liquor and ended up bent over a toilet. Not because I hit my limit mind you but because me and my friends had been mixing Jack Daniels with vodka unaware of what that does. For the record I'm 5'11" and 140 lbs and I woke up at about 10 AM the following morning feeling absolutely fine and lively, no hangover whatsoever. That said I still can't look at a bottle of Jack Daniels to this day without feeling a slight urge to vomit.

Maybe you do, but I sure as hell don't. Whiskey has other flavours. Rum has other flavours. Tequila has other flavors. But when you get rid of every flavor EXCEPT for the flavor of alcohol, every single person I've ever known will say that that **** tastes awful.

That's just why I draw the distinction between "alcohol" and "alcoholic drinks". Alcoholic drinks can certainly taste great, but alcohol just plain tastes awful. If you want to know what ethanol tastes like, it tastes like rubbing alcohol (BTW, do not ever drink rubbing alcohol. Because even though that stuff tastes like grain alcohol, it will kill the hell out of you).

Yeah, if you want to puke all over the place. You guys will learn very quickly that sweet alcohol (especially rum), most mixed drinks, and anything creamy or milky with alcohol are great ways to end up puking your guts out. That kind of stuff is for stupid college kids who don't know any better.

Stick to beer, liquor straight up (vodka, tequila), or if you must have a mixed drink, it should be something that isn't sweet, like a gin and tonic.

Yeah, Vodka alone never tasted that good. Flavored Vodka is pretty good on the other hand but I'm more of a beer person.

That actually IS the exact same stuff in all of our drinks. Ethanol is ethanol.

However, that doesn't mean it was a good idea to drink it. There's probably a difference between "cleaning grade ethanol" and "drinking grade ethanol". I'm assuming that ethanol for drinking has to be relatively pure and clean, since people have to drink that stuff. Meanwhile, cleaning alcohol probably isn't up to the same standards, since no one is expected to actually drink it.

Like, I've taken aspirin before. I've also made aspirin in a lab. But would I ever consume the aspirin that I personally made during a lab experiment? HELL NO.

When I say straight, I mean shots. If you drink a full bottle of just about anything, especially everclear, you deserve everything you get.

I have no idea. That's why I don't drink it often.
