[QUOTE="MrGeezer"][QUOTE="BumFluff122"]There are many types of alcohol. I find 'girlie' alcohol like Baileys or Kahlua to be much better tasting than the harder types.mfp16
I think we need to make a distinction between "kinds of alcohol" and "kinds of drinks". You bar might serve vodka, wine, beer, cognac, whiskey, rum, tequila, etc. But the kind of alcohol in all of those drinks is ethyl alcohol. "Types of alcohol" means methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, etc.
...and I thought Mr. Wizard was dead :)All I'm saying is, most people WILL agree that alcohol tastes bad. Ethanol is the alcohol in every alcoholic drink. And since a major point is to feel the effects of the alcohol, just about every alcoholic drink has enough alcohol in it that you can taste the alcohol.
Now, going to the liquor store, what is the closest that one can get to buying pure ethanol? As far as I know, probably Everclear. Now, do you know anyone who actually LIKES drinking pure Everclear? In that stuff, the alcohol is just about all you can taste. That stuff just plain tastes like alcohol.
Maybe you do, but I sure as hell don't. Whiskey has other flavours. Rum has other flavours. Tequila has other flavors. But when you get rid of every flavor EXCEPT for the flavor of alcohol, every single person I've ever known will say that that **** tastes awful.
That's just why I draw the distinction between "alcohol" and "alcoholic drinks". Alcoholic drinks can certainly taste great, but alcohol just plain tastes awful. If you want to know what ethanol tastes like, it tastes like rubbing alcohol (BTW, do not ever drink rubbing alcohol. Because even though that stuff tastes like grain alcohol, it will kill the hell out of you).
