the population of the earth has tripled in the last 50 years. the population of people wanting things Americans have has also tripled. There are only so much resources available for non-recycleable products like flat screen TVs.

It's not. If you go in an airplane and look at the window in america, most land there's no one on. And if worst comes to worst, about 20 people could live in EACH middle class home. Why all this doomsday stuff? It's not like women are shooting out babies. The whole world could fit in texas for crying out loud. Not to mention erecting sea houses and all that. Plus the water cycle recycles water, and oil is still being made, so some will finish once we run out, it never stops being made. Why all the doomsday when common sense is obvious?
dunl12496
Thanks for proving that common sense isn't that common. It's not just a question of physical space, rather one of sustainable resource use.
It's not common. And as population increases, people who get them do as well. Not like we can run out of food to plant.
Mao had the same philosophy, and it almost destroyed China
Uh, it's not about land. We have enough space on the world to fit a million times as many people as we got now... but you'd have about 99.9999% of them dying off after a relatively short time from starvation and squalor.
The efficiency of agricultural and sanitational infrastructure can only go so far before you have to build more of it, and we don't exactly have an infinite supply of nutrients and soil for farms nor do we have an infinite amount of a lot of other crap for building pipes to dump your crap and piss into. There are two ways to extend the lifespan of a system: reduce consumption and recycle consumed materials. Recycling tech is good because it allows us to extend the sustainability of essential elements far beyond their normal lifespans. But even that needs power and it won't give you a net gain, and if there is one thing in the universe you can't "recycle", it's energy. And I think it's going to be hella difficult to do the other thing when you're increasing the number of consumers.

^^^ all true. Not to mention if we consider the exponential growth in population and the demand for goods since the industrial revolution. Recycling just isn't enough. Even if we recycled everything, demand would still increase with population and for everything produced, there is A LOT of waste compared to the final product. e.g. a laptop computer creates around 800lbs of waste during the production process.
The countryside in America =/= the whole world.

Um. Good luck with that.

i once tried to fit a ball 18 inches wide into a marble a half inch wide, it did not work out wellWell you just needed more people. Then you could have done it. More people = more resources. It's simple logic really.
Yeah, the TC is right.
Sahara, the Himalaias, the Amazon forest, even Antarctica are completely empty.
Seriously, people who say the earth is getting crowded mustnt know that the above areas are empty. And the prices are very low folks. Dont waste your time. Buy land in Sahara or the Antarctica NOW!

Um. This.
The world IS getting more populated. Especially in still-developing countries. This puts unnecessary strain on every system meant to support the people.
dunl12496
Even so, if it's even true we'll just spread out. You can't trust charts.
You talk as if every square mile on earth is arable land that is livable. Try getting people to "spread out" to Antarctica and the Sahara. This is even ignoring the logistics of supporting such a population in terms of food, clean water, sanitation, energy etc.The entire population of the world could all fit in china and we would still have over three quarters of the land available. Search it online if you dont beleive me.

Thats true what do charts know, we should just go off your judgment from airplane windows. First thing to make me laugh all day. :lol:Even if the population is too much (which its not) what are we going to do about it? Start gunning people down?
