Why does it seem like that's the way it is? Like "Hey I'm wonding what the capitol of Finland is. I'll go to google really quick". Is it just traditional to use google to search for anything regardless if there are better search engines? (easily Ask for example. ) Are we just too accustomed to using google that we're afraid of changing our daily procedure by using a different site even if we know it could be better? I just don't get people sometimes.
Well google was the best at one point (and some people will contend it still is). It takes a while for people to transfer to a better product (you argue for Ask.com in this case).
because google is right there at the top of the browswer, It's just easier I don't have to search for, I would have to use google to find any other search engines
It just seems like it's the "Default" search engine. Just like the PS3 is kind of advertised as the "Default next-gen system", how Spanish is the "Default foreign language you need to take in school", or how black is the "default color for computer chairs". It may just be one of those things....

I like google because it's just a no-nonsense 'here's your ****ing results'. No rubbish on the page. It's fast, and I always find what I'm looking for in the first five results. I've no reason to switch.

1. Google is built in with Firefox 2. Firefox has some good add-ons for Google, like GooglePreview 3. Most of the stuff I search for doesn't require a top-of-the-range search engine with hundreds of features. Google does just fine.

I don't think it's that we're "afraid of changing our daily procedure", I think it's that we don't consider it a part of that daily procedure at all. You seem to assume what search engine any given person is using is really that important to them.
I'm not arguing, I'm just wondering why we tend to hold on to things that are obsolete. camreeno360

Google gets the job done. No mess, no extra whistles, and it's fast. What supper awesome feature did ask.com suddenly come up with that makes all other search engines "obsolete"? :?
i originally started using it because it was a) fast and b) not spammed with advertisements on the homepage like yahoo was at the time. ( i cant remember if lycos was or not at the time, but it sucked anyway ). now its merely habit. it works well enough for me to not care.

I hope its not because of their new and amazing hella-busy results layout
For me its very simple, when i search something on google i can say im Googling, but with other sites i cant say im Yahooing or Altavisting, it just doesnt sound as cool.
Areason more use it w/o thinking is that Google has become a verb in our everyday language, though to be fair Ask has the handicap of already being a verb.
